i took politics of mass media, very informative and very easy course. but then i went to class, so it was easy to know what to write to get a good grade out of him. if you are smart it is easy to get a good grade from a smart teacher.

Good prof. Go to class and listen to his lectures. He explains things well and I definitely feel that I've learned a lot from the class. Comes off a little harsh, but it's college, not middle school- he won't baby anyone.

I took this class when he temp. taught at UCSC. He had students grade papers, and he was rude to people who asked for help or didnt follow his lectures. He thinks he is the smartest thing alive and complains about how stupid faculty and students are. I think he really lacks the personality, patients, or "spark" it takes to teach.

He LOVES to belittle people he thinks are "stupid." He makes class ridiculously easy if you are one of his favorites. I got an A+ without trying, but other hardworking people who did everything well got C's. He constantly talks crap about "stupid" students to his "smart" students. Completely unprofessional and arrogant. DO NOT TAKE

if you go to class, and write down everything he says.. you're golden. people who think he is an ass are likely to be dumb themselves because he is extremely intelligent and as long as you know how to write down what he says, and do the readings.. its not a problem. its only four papers and everything in the paper is exactly what he says in class.

If you are willing to put in hard work, pay attention, and go to class regularly take this class. Although Barclay can be harsh and is a bit unapproachable he is a fantastic professor. He gives you difficult material and grades you based on how well you engage with it. A great class overall, however I would not recommend freshman taking it

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! While attendence is not mandatory, you are almost sure to have problems if you dont go. I got a c- in class, and tried my best, which is sad because im usaully a good student. Lectures a boring, he makes fun of students and makes them stand in front of the class to vote whether or not to kick them out if they dont read.

I have to say that Barclay was the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. I couldn't understand half the things we learned in class (Which is why most people don't bother attending), and he reserved his help mostly for his favorite students. I worked harder in the class than I ever have in my life just to barely pass. Do NOT take his class.

Amazing teacher. The course material is super interesting and classes are fun because Barclay actually has a sense of humor (albeit a sarcastic one). Go to class because if you don't you will be confused for the final paper and fail. Its pretty straight forward. But all in all this is a great class for a political science major!!

Prof. Barclay is an awesome teacher. He barks a lot louder than he bites. The assignmens are hard but if you engage the material and actually think for yourself - you will be rewarded. GO TO CLASS or else this class will seem impossible when trying to do the writing assignments. In addition, be active in class as it will help your grade!

best poli sci professor i had. class is fun, so go, even though its not mandatory. it pays off in the end with the 20 points participation on your grade (and participate, he loves it). he is hillarious, in that sarcastic way, and a very smart man. dont wait last minute to do assignments-easier to get it outta the way, and hell know if u 1/2 assedit

GREAT professor. DIFFERENT from other professors, and that threw me, but as the semester went on, he grew on me. He conveys the material in a way that everyone will understand and relates it to experiences students have. Great guy to talk to, although he is sarcastic, it's just in good fun. GREAT class on civil rights and sexual orientation. :)

He's a really good professor, and pretty personable. The class isn't that much work--just do your work and go to class. You don't even need to go to class...just do your work and write quality papers. Don't try to BS him either...he's mad smart and you can't get away with anything. Overall, really good professor and an interesting, doable class
