Comment:
His lectures are virtually useless for helping you figure out the homework. He also fails to help you strongly understand the underlying concepts of the material. The homework was time consuming since I always had to teach myself how to do it. Long readings, although it's possible to survive the class without doing all of them. Avoid this professor

Midterm - 33% Final - 67% Misc grade(Paper, hw, attendance) - +/- an entire grade Lectures are high level, and dont really relate to the exams at all. He still requires attendance(will randomly call your name in the quarter). Exams are not closely related to the hw. I studied quite a bit and feel like studying wouldnt have even really helped.

Can even understand why this class will be counted as econ class because most of the class materials are about networking. And his teaching is horrible, you can only read books to learn. He doesn't give lecture note, test example or even a study guide. It's hard to understand what he's talking in class and you have 3 case studies need to be done.

His lecture is way too high level to be useful for the homework & exams, but he makes it mandatory by randomly calling on students in lecture, which affects your grade. Tests are basically the same as the homework, so make sure you read the text and can do those problems.

Comment:
The class was very dense with reading. The homework doesn't reflect on the lecture and it relied a lot on what I've taught myself through the readings. Expect the test to be conducted in a similar fashion. In terms of his lecturing, he is a great professor and definitely knows what he's talking about. Long story short, don't be lazy in his class.

Seriously difficult. I failed the midterm in an epic fashion, but picked myself back up for the final. Dense material, but very interesting lecture only if you're engaged. Office hours are also very helpful, Jordan is a really good professor regardless of anything. You'll do very well if you're not lazy.

Syllabus says the % grade breakdown but he didn't use it. The whole class realized that he had only used peoples midterm and final grades to calculate the class grade hence curving everyone down (hw was 20%)

Learned nothing concrete. No programming. Relies entirely on textbook chapter problems. Lectures can be a waste of time. What you'll come out is a high-level level understanding of TCP/IP & UDP (if you actually do the 100+ pg/wk readings), an unnecessary amount of confusion, and inexperience with any useful tools for analyzing networks.

his lectures are too high level and does not relate to any of the tests, yet you have to attend for participation points. I thought it was a waste of time. I pretty much had to teach myself throughout the quarter. Tests are way too complicated compared to his homework

Does not teach anything at all. He just reviews some stuff that he assumes to be known. Slide material has nothing to do with exams and homework. The exams are very hard, and the grading is not flexible at all. Take this course with this professor only if you already know everything about computer networks!

Great at explaining things at a high and low level. There are some annoying things about the class like notes with info you can only get in class / non transparent grading scheme, but he's here to teach you -- that's for sure. Be ready for LOTS of work, hah!

Slides he gives are useless when it comes to solving the cryptic homework problems; Doesn't tell you grading scale, final based on homework problems that he never bothered to go over himself, worth 40%. I learned NOTHING useful from him. I'd tell you to avoid but since the class is core req for CS, odds are you'll have to see him unfortunately.

I wanted to take this course to satisfy a breadth requirement for Category 2, As a Business Econ Major, I can say that I, along with 80 other students, were fooled into the title of the course "Internet and Public Policy. 4 HWs worth 25%. Final is RIDICULOUS and 4 case studies about current topics. the case studies are ur life lines. AVOID HIM.

homework is alright. tests are hard. no way to prepare for tests, which are entirely different from the hw. sets avg grade for exams to C-. pretty good teacher, but just needs to rethink grading criteria.

Class consists of a power point presentation every lecture. The homework assignments usually cannot be done without the help of the TA in discussion section. The tests are amazingly difficult and no amount of studying or cheat sheet(which he allows for the test) will fairly prepare you. Does not follow standard curve or standard deviation on gradin

Takes a relitively easy course (Probablity for Engineers) and makes it much more difficult than it needs to be. Exams were nothing like the homework. Failed over 25% of the students in a required senior level class. Does not curve. Used his 'own discretion' to assign grades.

His homework will blow you away. Go to discussion, lectures are easy to follow. You'll need help from friends in this class, just to develop better problem solving skills. You learn alot if you study. His TESTS will kill you if you dont study.
