She is a very nice and caring person, but tends to get off topic a lot. The entire class was one big group project and due dates were not very clear for the few assignments we had.

Prof. Whitney is the best combination of mother and grade-school teacher you could have embodied in an actual professor. Great class. If you get assigned to a good group the class will be even better. She obviously cares about public speaking AND helping you become better at it!

Comment:

Shawnalee is one of the best professors I've had at UAA thus far. She is personable, extremely helpful, and simply a kind person. Her approach to this class really eases fears and helps overcome challenges in communication, especially public speaking (which most people freak out about the most). I would never take this class with anyone else.

Tests had the usual super specific questions that nobody knew, but if you know the material you can walk out with high marks. Some trick questions, but less than average. Class had a lot of participation and 2 big group projects which involved a bit of public speaking. Stay attentive and it should not be a big deal, she's seen it all.

Shawnalee makes comms 111 a fun adventure and is ready to help out when needed. She is extremely personable and the hallmark of what a professor should be! You do have to work for your grades, but with the way the class is laid out just follow her schedule and you will succeed. I wish she taught more courses! Highly recommend her for comms 111!

Professor Whitney made the average communications course definitely worth going to. I resented this course in the beginning but by the end I enjoyed it. She goes through what she wants in a timely manner, and always tries to help in any way. You also get to know your classmates during which makes each presentation less nerve-wracking.

Professor Whitney is amazing! Her class was wonderful and fun. She is "motherly" but in the best way. You get points everyday for just showing up and there are tons of opportunities for extra credit. She does grade harshly on speech outlines just make sure you follow her example exactly and you will do great! Truly an amazing passionate professor.

AMAZING PROFESSOR I love, love, loved this class. Professor Whitney actually got me really interested in communication. She genuinely cares about the students and has very interesting lectures. Professor Whitney is an excellent instructor who has a sincere interest in having her students succeed. I was impressed by her clarity in explaining concepts and her unwavering politeness and courtesy towards the students. She even inspired me to get a Communications Minor. One of the best Professors at UAA

Kind of a motherly personality (which irritates me), but I can't deny that if you turn in the assignments you will get a high grade in her class. She also offers a lot of extra credit. What I hated the most though is that you can't choose your speech topics, which kinda bites. If you can test out of the Comm GER, do it.

She is an awesome teacher! The course is very interesting. You have to do a 5-6 minute speech in the beginning of the semester, but she completely understands students' hatred toward public speaking. Write down lecture notes and read the book because both are on the tests. She offers several opportunities for extra credit. I recommend her.

Wonderful lady, very enthusiastic and helpful. Definitely a course geared to freshman ( i took it my senior year). Course content a little boring, but she's good at adding interesting facts. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities which is great to make up absences.

Her class was really interesting. She jumps right into Public Speaking to get it done and over with early in the semester. Easy 5-6 minute speech. Her Midterm and Final tests are rather hard though, and you really have to put the notes and book text to memory in order to get a good grade. Other than that it was rather enjoyable and easy to get an A
