This is the easiest class you'll ever take. Class is extremely boring and attendance is mandatory. Majority of his lecture slides are pictures, and he really only touches on a handful of important concepts. Definitely recommend for a 3 credit humanities class!

A pretty good guy. Material was interesting, but lectures really can be boring, and not that helpful. Overall, definitely worth taking.

I would suggest taking this class only if you are truly interested in Chinese philosophy, art, poetry, literature, and history. There is A LOT of reading, 3 papers , and a final exam.I did basically none of the reading, got A's and A-'s on my papers but somehow ended up with an A.Without an interest, this class is SUPER boring and you won't like it.

He's boring and usually gives somewhat obscure answers to questions. But the class is taught by many professors so he only lectures for a few classes.

course is a way better alternative to great books/clciv 2... but be prepared to read a LOT and draw on historical chinese knowledge that, well, a lot of people don't have. he is a supportive teacher, and the lectures are (usually) interesting, and often totally obscure. you may fall asleep. a lot. mandatory attendance :(:(

Professor Lin is really knowledgeable and friendly. Great class if you are interested in Chinese literature. There is a fair amount of reading involved but they're all pretty interesting. Grading is very fair. Gang Liu is also a great GSI. One of my favorite classes. Highly recommended.

lectures are very boring and monotonous but the GSI takes attendance which sucks. the grading is very easy and the later readings are pretty interesting so it's worth taking...especially to get out of great books 192!

Charming old man imbued with a quiet and deep-seated love of Chinese literature and poetry. Gently humorous, consistent with his fair treatment of all his pupils. I learned a lot from him.
