Comment:
The class is terrible. The homework and the tests are barely related. The three tests in class are worth 45% of the overall grade and are very difficult. There is some help with the homework and in-class projects being worth 35% of the grade but it doesn't help with low test grades. Overall a nice guy but a bad teacher. I would pick someone else.

Stan is the man!!! One of the best teachers that I have had at UA. He is now retired and only teaches one or two classes a semester, and I think he is a lot more laid back than he used to be. Homework can be difficult at times, but the tests are worth the majority of the points and they are ridiculously easy. If you can, TAKE STAN!

His tests could be pretty bad and the lectures werent always very clear, but this is a physics course! Overall Dr. Jones was a very good professor. He truly cared about our grades and was more than willing to help explain the material more clearly. Speak up if you are confused and STUDY THE REVIEWS and you should be fine.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! Unless you enjoy teacher yourself a very difficult class, taking ridiculously hard tests, and doing homework that is nearly impossible, then avoid him at all cost. I studied for 3 weeks for the final and made a 60% on the test. I'm on scholarship at UA and NEVER made below an 85% in any class I have ever taken, until now.

Recommend you find someone to take physics from. The tests have NOTHING to do with what he talks about in class, and he frequently says the homework problems are a lot hardier then the test questions will be, so homework is not helpful either. I spent hours and hours studying for tests just to fail them. Barely escaped his class with a decent grade

Seems like a nice guy, but he makes class boring and works problems just to prove that he can. Never missed class and still struggled to pass. Avoid if possible

Really not that bad of a class. As long as you go over the review sheets and understand homework before the tests, you should be fine. Can be a bit scatterbrained and poor with technology, but he's a funny guy.

He is very smart, but not a good teacher. He doesnt so much teach as works examples without much explanation. I found him hard to follow.

Let me just say if you can avoid him, then it would be in your best interest to do so. All he does is spend an hour every class period proving he knows the equations, hardly ever goes over actual problems in class that are relevant (let alone understandable), and the homework is near IMPOSSIBLE to understand. Avoid if you can

Nice guy but expected us to know base material and I had never taken a physics class before. Very difficult class and wouldn't recommend taking him unless you have some sort of background knowledge

Supposedly his class has gotten much more difficult than it has been. His test are harder and he cant scale test as much. You don't really learn anything in class and the HW is impossible, much more difficult than test questions. You have to learn everything on your own. Physic is hard by itself tho, its hard to get a great teacher.

Good teacher. Also, a very good guy. He tries to help everyone. Scales tests, tests aren't bad, a lot of grades besides just tests. Info can be hard, but if you actually care you can get an A. Take this class with a friend if possible.

I talked to my friends who were taking Phys1 with other profs, & realized that Jones is one of the best PH profs. Little homework; very patient, & CARES about your grade. The problem really was time constraints. He crammmed a bunch of info in lecture in order to make time for the subsequent lab. Also the Honors textbook sucked (not used anymore)

Very scatter brained, but overall easy. I made an A+ and hardly put any effort in to the class. I studied only the night before the test just by making a formula sheet and made A's on both test. If you were satisfied with grade before the final you didn't have to take the final. There was a 10 point extra credit oppurtunity for final grade.

Ok FIRST you can get all the homework answers off of yahoo or from a tutor! Make sure you do all you homework! SECOND make sure you have a great group with the labs! You need good grades on the labs and hw. THIRD, make a good formula sheet by using the old tests, and you can survive. He isn't a great communicator so depend on a tutor and a friend!

Teacher is extremely scattered. Like the rating before me said: he just tries to prove he can do it. Spends hours on deriving formulas that is absolutely not helpful to you. Tests are 12 questions, if you tend to do mistakes (like me) don't take this teacher. Either way, try to avoid.

Probably the worst professor I have had at Alabama. I put as much effort into this class as Organic Chem, it is PH105 with algebra same exercises. You have no idea what's going to be on the test he just pulls it out of his head. Class is him deriving formulas just to show you that he can and wasted precious time. Made B+ should have been A+.

Class had structure... but not really. He was very scattered as far as assigning homeworks. Not exactly hard at all... slept through most classes and passed by cramming.
