Comment:

I love art and everything about making art, but palmisano was extremely difficult. She wasn't clear on what she expected, she seemed to not have set reasons for the grades she handed out (and never explains), and expects you to already know what you're doing. If you are confident in what you're doing she is a fine professor, but not for fragile.

Sue can be difficult for those that want to just get by easily but if youre willing to work hard to actually learn, shes your girl. She made me a better drawer and a painter. she does give a lot of feedback which isnt always good but you have to be willing to take it

I feel like I wasted my time in 400 level drawing because I wasn't ready. Sue is tough and she's not very relatable. It's never very clear what she wants from you. Take her if you are a confident drawer but I don't recommend her before juniorsenior level.

Comment:

As a person, Sue is very respectable. As a teacher, she lacks the necessary abilities to hone oil painting skills. Only 4 projects...not enough to build my confidence with oil paint. I ended up teaching myself outside of class since in-class time was near useless. If you want to get by, take her. If you want to excel in art, not recommended.

Beyond frustrated. She threw us into a still life expecting us to oil paint fluently right from the start. Didn't explain materials. No clear written criteria for projects/ don't know why I received the grades I did. Same suggestions were repeated. NO DEMONSTRATIONS on painting technique. I will go out of my way to never take her again.

350 characters cannot explain the hell that is 2D design with Susan. She is extremely unclear, her materials are outrageously priced and she nevers knows what she wants. She will tell you to "fix" your painting without saying anything more. Her 2D class is actually a painting class and she acts like a mean step mom.

She pointed out flaws in the use of value and line, but i'm not sure she knew how to fix the problem and if she did, she didn't tell me. She tried to give the class creative freedom and then decided to tell us what to draw.

She wasn't very helpful. If you asked her for advice, she would tell you that it didn't look very good and then she would walk away and chat for about 10 minutes with one or more of her favorites in the class.

Sue is helpful overall, although sometimes she can be confusing about what she wants. But I learned a ton, and I think I really improved from the beginning of the semester. I would definitely recommend taking her for a class. One more thing-she really challenges you, but it's good.

She is ok, but is not clear on what she expects out of her students. Her midterm was brutal, as compared to other profs. Also, other Art112 profs push creativity and fun. Finally, she makes you buy too many things. If you've got time to waste, and money to waste, you'll love her. If you want to b-come a better artist- choose ANYONE else!

Comment:

You'll get an A if you give her what she wants. The problem is, she changes her mind a lot, gives you suggestions you can't really use, expects things she doesn't tell you about, and then criticizes you when you didn't do what she didn't tell you to do in the first place. Overall, though, I love Sue and her classes are a GREAT learning experience.

She seems cool at first, but hits you with these confusing projects out of nowhere. Absolutely no explanation of how to actually paint or mix paint, she just wants you to magically have these skills. I didn't think 2D Design was actually a painting course.

She tends to not explain the projects completely at 1st and can be a little harsh during critiques. I'd like more theory and concentration on design but its a basic course. Get used to painting "within the lines" and in thin layers- sometimes cuts time short on projects. if you work youll be ok tho

Sue is helpful and always offers suggestions. She is open to your ideas and is a very successful painter herself. Take this class if you love getting messy and learning a TON of new concepts. I would recommend this class to anyone.

sue's class is kind of hard and it's mostly about painting (not design) even though she denies it...she really saved me though when i made a bonehead mistake so she is understanding and cool overall. i would recommend her

Her class was easy enough in concept, but it seemed like there was either nothing to be working on or all the work hit you at once. Definately not an easy A ...but she is a very nice woman, and even though she has severe mood swings, she's usually nice.
