Prof Coon's lectures were a bore and honestly the way he laid out his syllabus felt outdated and bland. You use a clicker for lecture which can help raise your grade and he does offer extra credit opportunities as well as fair grading practices.

Coons makes you buy a "study guide" book for $10 at the beginning of the semester- it has EVERYTHING you need to know for the test. Don't bother reading the textbook. Paying attention in class isn't really required, because everything is in the guide. I did not like him as a teacher becausehe didn't add much- I could have just read the guide book.

Do not take his class. This is OBJECTIVELY a HARD class. Intro to psych sounded fun me, but this class ruined my GPA for freshmen year basically. Every other class I received solid A's. This class? B- . Most time consuming class too - just please. Avoid.

Literally got a question asking what's fig.15.a.(3) or sth in the textbook WITHOUT the picture. The level of specificity in the tests is very high. But if you do the homework questions at least thrice, you will be fine in the exams. Prof is not very accessible outside class, but his TAs are helpful if you keep probing. Be ready to work very hard.

Honestly I would NOT recommend taking Psychology 101 with this professor. He is an extremely intelligent man, but ruins the course. He is extremely incoherent and is not willing to help, even in office hours! Honestly this class could have easily ruined psychology for me. The other professors in the psychology department are better.

Easy A. The multiple choice questions from the back of each chapter of the Study Guide make up 70% of his test questions. Also, the extra credit is insane. Can easily go from a B+ to an A. I spent maybe an hour each week studying and got a solid A. On the last exam, got an A without knowing a thing, just from memorising MC Q's. Bless this man

This was a pretty tough class but that shouldn't discourage you from taking it. The study guide is very handy. Many of the m/c questions on the test are taken from there. Also, I would complete the extra research hours because it will only help boost up your grade. attending lectures is important because he uses the iclicker to ask questions.

His lectures are completely terrible. His notes are his bible for the class but they have so many grammatical mistakes that it makes it difficult to understand what he is trying to tell you. Be prepared to study since each exam is pretty information heavy. The hardest class for pre-med req I have had to take thus far (end of sophomore year).

Difficult exam and grading. Pay attention and read the textbook as you have to study the material/examples. It's a required class and it was one of the hardest ones in my Psych major.

Not worth taking as an elective. It's the kind of class that even if you study really hard its easy to get a C because he makes his exams so hard. This class will not want to make you take psych ever again. He does offer extra credit a lot though so its not the end of the world. If you can take a different professor then do! Very harsh grading!

Lectures aren't anything special but I find them helpful to go; if you get a clicker you literally get extra credit just for coming to class. Definitely do the reading, if you miss class that basically covers it all. Funny and kindhearted guy who definitely knows his stuff.

I know a lot of people find his lectures useless and boring, but I really enjoyed them. His stories, which at first may seem like ramblings, are actually really hilarious examples of what we are learning at that moment. Though the lectures are not required... definitely go! They are super helpful learning the material (which really is a lot).

Coons is really funny and bizarre. He has a bad rep because he can be a little confusing in lecture and his exams are a kinda difficult. But if you focus on his lecture handouts and get the textbook Study Guide, you'll do fine (most of the test questions are from there). He also gives lots of extra credit, so your grade does go up in the end!

I dont understand how ANYONE could give him a good review. All he does is mumble and imitate animals. He does absolutely no teaching and tests you on things literally the next day. His grading curve makes no sense.. The TA's suck. Im sure he WAS a very knowledgeable guy in the past, but not anymore. Not an "easy A", don't take him for psych .avoid

Professor Coons is extremely knowledgeable and not only knows all the information he's teaching, but often utilizes psych principles to help YOU. Expects you to put in work, but not too much, and is definitely on your side if you put the work in. Not a class you can coast through, but it's awesome being taught by someone so widely knowledgeable

Easy class. Extra Credit is given if you attend lecture a certain number of times and also if you participate in extra studies. Don't buy the textbook (waste of money). Just buy his study guide (it includes test questions).
