Theron is a real gem. He is passionate about the course and people in general. Show up, have a genuine interest, try your best, and you will pass. Accommodating and understanding of concerns. We read four pieces of literature and wrote/discussed them, but the workload is not demanding. You will speak before peers and discuss lot. Have fun! :)

I have taken 2 diff eng classes with him over 12 yrs. Love his classes. Not easy but assignments are interesting and fun. Fast grader, and gives great feedback. Highly recommend.

Comment:

Prof Westrope is one of my favorite professors. I came into 103 very intimidated by writing essays but his lectures broke everything down and as long as you follow the guidelines you will do great. He answered several of my questions right away and also graded my essays within 24 hours (very fast). Very manageable workload, not a harsh grader.

Comment:

Took English 103 online and it was the best thing ever. All we had to do is write three essays and then an essay for the final. The best part is there is no textbook, he provides the reading that is needed for the essays. He allows one rewrite for any essays. Although he does not accept late work, he gives a month to work on the essay.

I am SO glad I chose him for 103 coming straight from 100. The ONLY work during the semester were 3 essays + 1 final! NO homework assignments, NO required textbook. Just show up for short lecture/discussion and that's it! He allows rewrite of first 3 essays for better grade & final essay is given in advanced to work on at home/in class the day of

I was hesitant to take Westrope because of other reviews but honestly he is a solid professor. All his prompts were interesting and honestly, the people who complain about him probably didnt understand that ENGL103 is Argumentative writing- VERY different from ENGL101. He is awesome and will help in any way he can.

He is very approachable and will help if you ask for it. You get what you put in to the class. If you try hard and show effort even if you are struggling he will help. There are 4 very long essays due for this class and that is how your grade is determined. He does allow you to rewrite the essay if you are not happy with the grade.

Considering this was an online class, it was very difficult in the beginning to switch from 101 style to 103. If I continued to try on my own, I would not have passed. Utilize him and meet him outside of class and he will make what he wants very clear for you. I took the 5 week summer course, you write an essay a week. He allows two rewrites/no RDs

Professor Westrope is a great teacher and gives detailed feedback. He will push you to be the best writer you can be. If youre only taking 103 for the credit then he is not the right teacher for you. If youre looking into developing your skills as a writer take this class and put in the extra effort it takes to deliver your best work!!

I took his ENG103 class online which I would not recommend anyone. It was fine since I'm a strong writer but if English is not your forte then DON'T TAKE. He gave us our assignment, the reading material, some videos to watch, and a month to write our essay. He really didn't teach us. Just left us to fend for ourselves w/ poor feedback on our essays

I took this class online and I ended up doing very well. I got a B+ on my first paper and then I got all A's on the rest of my papers. With the rewrite, I was able to fix my paper and get an A on that paper as well, giving me an A for the class. The feedback was great and it really helped me improve my writing tremendously. Great professor.

westrope was a great online choice. if you cant handle online dont take because there are no reminders on when things are do. you do 4 papers and thats it, and he gives you feedback to use on rewrites.

Don't take him! He doesn't care for his students! He told me to drop his class because my 1st paper wasn't what he expected. He could at least give me advice or tell me he could help me out for the next paper, but didn't. I was so disappointed as a student to have a teacher that didn't care. I dropped right away I rather have a teacher that cares!

Do not take online. He seems very good at what he does, but this class is not recommended for online. You are expected to know your stuff by the time you take this level of English, understood, but you are left to your own accord until you turn in your paper which left me high and dry because I apparently missed the mark.

I have failed my first two essays due to procrastination. Make sure you give yourself time to write and concentrate on his essays. He allows two rewrites. This allowed me to bump up my grade and I received an A in the class. He left gods tips on my failed papers so I can improve

I was worried I was going to fail the class since I got F's on my first two papers. He gives the chance to rewrite and correct papers though! I wish I wouldn't have taken the class online since English isn't my best subject but over all I didn't mind his class!! Just don't wait til the last minute to write your papers!

I have been at MJC for two years. I have all A's until I came across this professor. I have received F's on my first two essays. Revised and resubmitted and it was not good enough still. I had utilized tutoring for every essay and spent countless hours rewriting and trying to meet his expectations. I do not recommend him at all.
