Because of John, Socrates came alive. Every moment I loved learning, I loved Greece; I loved the process of discovering. There was a moment, I handed John part of my thesis. He looked at me, said "How do you feel about it?" I said "Well it's academic, a thesis." He handed it back & said, "Write it again. I want YOUR voice." a great teacher in.deed.

John Moore is a great teacher and a decent human being. He can be a little hot/ cold when it comes to what/ how much he expects, swinging kind of radically from low/no expectation to a deep grasp on the material, but he is funny, nice, and a good communicator.

John rocks as a prof because he's willing to take the time to explain things. He made me love Greek, tea in his office, and his general classics classes. He can be a bit absentminded about things, but in general, he's there when you need him. Everybody needs to take a John Moore class before they leave New College!

John Moore doesn't waste any time with meaningless crap. If you don't want to do any work or learn anything in his class, then he won't go out of his way to stop you. But, if you want to take advantage of his vast knowledge, you will find him to be a near eternal spring of inspiration and guidance.

For such a learned man, he needs to steer clear of life's general irony and other cliches. When proactive, one can gain a lot of knowledge from him, but his classes provide little incentive to do work. He is nevertheless hilariously entertaining and he deserves his legendary status at New College.

Moore likes to talk. But he does it in a way that he's always on the verge of giving you the answers to all of life's questions. He is a wise man who I want to kidnap and make my grandfather but his class is just him talking about plays and life and you dont even have to read the plays and he will never know your name but he has a heck of a laugh

Prof Moore is a blast. He knows a ton of stuff about what he's teaching and class is pretty much always fun - there's lots of digression into discussion that doesn't necessarily partain to class, but it's definitely interesting.
