has a doctorates but DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY PIANO. constantly messed up, didn't teach us how to sing, just played piano while we did our best singing whatever song he said. people were awesome but the professor was boring and didn't teach. made us watch boring videos. he checks attendence everyday and it is a lot off your grade if you don't show

If you have any passion for music, stay away from this professor. Took it Spring of '10 and nearly walked out every week. He is scatter-brained and doesn't talk one-on0one with his students. As mentioned in other ratings, we were required to write concert reports on material we never learned. Didn't even touch the $150 book.

this teacher is charming he is a character. do not waste your money and buy the book you can pass without it as long as you take notes. you can do the listening for free on-line.there were a few times when i thought he was going to pass out in class he is up there in age but super foxy take this class and you will be entertained.

Run away from this teacher, as fast as you can. Never used $140 textbook and cd's. Waste of time. Got over 7 weeks behind, so he took away a mid term. Had to write 2 concert reports with requirements that he never taught. He can't use a windows system because he says he uses a mac. Please do not take this class!

He is a very nice teacher n tries to be funny...he loves to teach this class but his age interferes with his clarity of teaching the class...the good way to get an A is to go to class every day n take notes on what he talks about...u have to memorize the terms n their meanings as well as the music....it might be boring but it's not hard getting an A....as long as u have patience with him, you will do fine...

I was looking forward to this class and wow was I disappointed. He's a nice guy, but he's also very spaced out. Honestly I'm surprised that he's still allowed to teach. He never has enough handouts, is unorganized, starts talking about random things, isn't clear, and is very dull. I learned more from searching the internet. Waste of time and money.

The secret to getting an A in his class is to be able to listen carefully... he gives a lot of info but you have to take notes, memorize the list of terms he gives for the 3 exams, and do the listening in advance on a daily basis. Although this is a survey course you get a whole new indepth understanding how just how creative and complex music is.

Nice guy but, doesn't teach very well. Spends most of the class sessions going over information that will not be on the test making me feel that most days in his class are a complete waiste. He also spends too much time on this unused info and pushes back the tests so by the end of the semester, tests are practically on top of one another.

One of the most boring classes I've ever had in one of the most interesting subjects. Waste of my time and money, I don't recommend him to anyone who wants a real musical education. I was so interested in the class but it was horrible to have to sit through each day. Nice guy though.

I think he's a very good teacher and skilled musician. I think other people underestimate him because he's a bit spacey but I'm not fooled by that. He's a character and students think that because of that they can get an easy A in his class...you're in for a big surprise.

RAMBLES ON A LOT! Don't take him at night cuz he will make you drowsy. I thought i was in the clear until he told us to write 2 essays on classical concerts. Make sure you run the concert you're attending by him first cuz what i thought would be OK wasn't. I was stuck with a B+ instead my original A cuz of a wrong concert i went to. Retarded!

Okay, so he is old and his lectures tend to be boring. However, he is very helpful when things are unclear. At the end of our class he would show boring films for about 30 minutes, at which time many students played or talked on their cell phones. Not a bad way to spend classtime if you ask me.
