Classes were extremely boring, drones on about himself and his accomplishments. Was never clear on if class was mandatory or not. Exams were ridiculously hard even if you went to class. "Handouts" were disorganized and not helpful at all, and "study guides" were a list of 300 terms on a word document. Avoid!!

I have no idea what all of these people are talking about he spends the whole class talking about himself and all of the work hes accomplished. Hes not helpful during office hours, his class is dry and boring. He expects you to write 8 pages on the paper, which everybody has had an issue with. I wouldnt recommend taking him.

For an upper level history course, it was not that difficult. Only midterm, final, and term paper. The two exams area based on the study guides/lecture, so go to class. Paper took some time to do, but he is a fair grader. Even had a dry sense of humor; not super exciting class but decent.

Great guy and knowledgable professor. Makes class really interesting by relating it to modern day and American history. Really personable and really takes the time to know his students. Lectures could be dry at times, but you will learn and will enjoy his various stories along the way. Highly recommend.

He seems like he knows what he's doing, but its hard to tell when he just reads straight from the textbook. For full class periods, too. midterm, final, paper, are tough but doable. Class can be anywhere between good, sorta confusing, and complete nonsense. Hard to stay awake during readings. Has irrelevant humor and isn't really funny.

He is the greatest professor at Rutgers. He is an outright genius and he genuinely cares about teaching, unlike many other professors. Extraordinarily straightforward, he will never trick you on a test. Expect effort, though- his tests and grading are not easy. But, if you have an interest in history, take him. His lectures are very entertaining.

Easily the best professor I've had in the history department. No one has ever spurred such an interest in their craft in me as he has. I recommend anyone who has any opportunity take a class. He expects a lot but anyone who puts in effort will be rewarded. Also, he's crazy and will tell tons of ridiculous jokes in lecture. Take his class!

I had him for Hellenistic World my last semester. He was by far the best History teacher I have ever had. He's laid back but structured, always starts class right on time, and is easy to follow bc he follows an outline he gives you. Hard tests, but doable... study. Very funny, very knowledgeable, very helpful.Go 2 office hrs.

Figueira is a great professor who knows about everything there is to know about the Ancient world. If you ask questions and pay attention in his class, learning from him is a pleasure and an easy A. Figueira is without a doubt the best classics professor at Rutgers and also loves cracking jokes. A great guy

The first couple of weeks might scare the unwary student into not trying or simply dropping the course. Sufficient proficiency of grammar is assumed. Figueira is very learned, but he needs to be more aware during tests. There were kids downloading and copying actual translations from their cell-phones during exams while he kicked back and read his papers.

Expects high level of intellect, but praises efforts generously. Very entertaining anecdotes. Amazing vocabularly in English and Latin. Loves diet Pepsi.

For Women in Antiquity. I dont think anyone should go through what I went through taking this course. All he does is read from the book. YES for 80 mins sometimes too! You learn 0. He wasted 3weeks in the beginning of the semester just to give us background info we were never tested on! A WASTE. NOT CLEAR ON ANYTHING Worst grade I ever got in a his

Great professor!!! Sometimes talks a little fast during lecture but if you take good notes you'll be fine. He may seem dry at first but you soon catch onto his sense of humor. He always makes an effort to accomodate needs and he holds exam review sessions to answer every question. Fair exams. Fair grader.

loved the class, you might find him boring because he just sits there and talk (makes a few jokes) but listen and look over his notes and it will be an easy a. i took it over the summer and it was the best class id have. dunno if hes still working there but i hope he is, and id definitely take the clases hes teaching.

I recommed taking Greek and Roman Mythology during the summer with him. It was a very easy class. If u study the notes, u should get an A. You get to pick which questions u want to answer on the exam. Because of the short time period, u dont have to do a term paper, just a midterm and final. He also gives u a copy of his own notes.

Very easy A, Smart Professor, knows his stuff. Just like prepping for the SAT's, just memorize the words and stuff. Class he just recites the words, so go to class to reinforce the words so its easier to memorize. One Midterm and One Final in summer. Show effort He is not dumb, he knows who comes, who cares and who tries,do ur best to participate

One of the smartest people at Rutgers. Can recite ancient Greek and Latin texts off the top of his head and uses them to explain the terminology used in medicine. His tests are fairly easy and if anyone needs help, he's more than willing to give it. Highly Recommended!
