Comment:
Gets angry and will yell if students don't do the reading. He grades hard, then will apologize and raise the grades a few days later. Will single students out for not participating or not doing the readings in front of class. He will go on long tangents that have little to do with the subject material and will keep the class late.

Monotonous voice; can make interesting material dull and lifeless. Will stop class discussion for a long, drawn-out and unneccessary grammar lesson. Inflexible and not overly understanding of personal situations.

Although he has issues managing class time, he is one of the best professors I have ever found in my whole life. He cares about his students, he knows what he is talking about, and he does not like BS, which is pretty much appreciated. He is clear, understanding, fair, and fun.

I recommend taking another professor for this class. His tests are all based on the book(high difficulty)in which you must read 20pgs/night to stay on task. Franz expects us to remember every single detail of the long history of Spain, & he doesnt provide guidance as to what is important-he doesnt lecture about anything youll be tested on.

Span civilization and culture was a fairly interesting class. Most people in my class hated him because they did very poorly on exams. If you do all the reading and a good amount of studying for each exam it isn't bad though. I thought he had a lot of good anecdotes though that helped make class less boring.

Starts class early, ends class late. Talks entirely too much just to fill up time and is very monotoned and hard to pay attention to. He requires a story read each night which takes a minimum of 2 hours. Sweet old man but I will never take any of his classes again.

Poetry class. Read a lot of poems and he explains some background to the authors but if you want to learn more about them you have to read the text book on your own time. He is a really sweet old man but sometimes talks too much (but that's usually just because the rest of the class isn't talking). he's fair with the essays. go to class!

This class is the most difficult I have taken in college, and I am a Spanish major! He does not distinguish between grad and undergrads and moves faster when the native speakers are bored. 2 hours of reading EVERY night and the final doesn't even cover the books you read, but other novels he mentioned once or French authors...

Adorable....if you're not comfortable with a full class taught in spanish then this class is not for you...other than that Franz is adorable and makes really odd and funny comments if you listen closely...the plays are pretty interesting and he is willing to explain any questions...highly reccommend

Try to do the readings every night- he gets REALLY upset when people don't participate. The only grades are for attendance, essays, and participation... so show up, have something to say, and watch the grammar on your papers.

Likes participation so do it.read assignments everynight and class is easy.harder than 354.Watch what he writes on the board because he might accidentally leave out a letter in "vuelva".Grammar stickler and gave good handout.Lots of analyzing and strange stories.Common themes. Essays doable. Some group work answering questions on a paper.Lit themes

You read plays, analyze them in class, talk in groups, participate, come to class, write at home essays, and pop quizzes in which you must read the little details! Great class to improve your writing skills. Be prepared for stuff that might greatly offend or amaze you--both teacher and in the play

Interesting character. He is moody and can get angry for no reason (later apologizing). He knows his stuff though. Also, he lets students use the Reader book during the tests, which makes tests easier and easier to get an A overall than with other profs.

I took him all three quaters...my 211, 212, 213 sequence. Some consider him harder, but he is a gooood teacher. His tests are straight out what he says will be on it. He's not out to trick you. If you do the work, you'll do great in his class!
