Comment:

Definitely wont take again. Took his 204, did the homework (never understood it) and attended every lecture, and got a D. Immediately took it again with a proffesor teaching the class FOR THE FIRST TIME and understood everthing and passed with a A-. The class is incredibly easy if you enjoy math but his teaching makes it seem way more difficult.

Comment:

TJ is an amazing professor for this class but also has very high expectations for students. That being said, go to class and study often and you should do fine on the tests. Start the projects early and I'd highly recommend having him look over your work a day or two before it's due. If you put in the work you will get a lot out of this class.

Love this guy! Don't be intimidated by him because he's just a person! He's quirky but I loved him! This class requires a lot o precision and he's very particular about formatting. Just do what he says in that respect, haha. I consistently spend an hour or so after class to work on the hw and I was totally fine! Have fun!

I am legitamately surprised by his ratings. I found Ypma to be one of my favorite professors that I have had so far. He is so incredibly smart and while he can get on weird tangents they usually relate somehow. Tests are easy if you attend class and do HW regularly. I left his class with immense respect for him.

His lectures are impossible to follow. He doesn't number his examples or label what section he is on. He just kinda does problems on the board without discussing what concept he is trying to focus on. Class isn't hard but his lectures are impossible.

Ypma is a good teacher. The tests are challenging but fair. He will answer any questions you have in class and is helpful during office hours. He is a somewhat intimidating teacher at first but develops a good report as the class moves on. If you do the homework, study, and ask for help you will do fine.

Tjalling has this crazy ability to cover a lot of material (and go over homework q's) in a single class, but not make you feel completely overwhelmed or rushed. Go to class, do the homework, and ask for help when needed. It's a tough course, but an A is not impossible. FYI, he always put 5 true/false questions on every test.

Ypma told us on the first day that 204 has a very high failure rate. Well, I believe it. But if you go to class, do all the homework (and understand it!), then there's no reason why you shouldn't get the grade you want.

super awkward, super smart. if you're a girl he seems to put more thought into his answer to your questions in class. your whole grade is based on the four tests. missing class is a very poor choice.

Extremely smart guy, but when it comes to explaining math he tends to go over everybody's heads. He goes over examples in class but you really need to read the book to fully understand the topics. Definitely not an easy grader on tests either.

this is a hard class. you have to stay on top of things. you HAVE TO READ and spend at least 1-2 hrs/day on it. you HAVE to try, you HAVE to get help. but it is very possible to do well. but Ypma does a good job explaining things, but readign the text is really helpful. you cant just wing this class, you have to try and you'll do good.

Hardest math class ever. 50%+ is passing with a D. Homework isn't mandatory, but if you don't keep up you will find yourself behind. The material is hard to follow, it is the only class i stayed up all night to study. 4 tests including the final, and your grade is based off of the 4, nothing else contributes. Hard.
