The best professor I have had in my six years on campus. Tom is kind, genuine, respectful, and wants you to succeed. He explains concepts clearly and thoroughly. Attending class is a must but there is no reason why you wouldn't want to. His passion for geology is inspiring and his thoughtfully crafted lectures make him a gem of a prof.

One of the best at UofA. Class itself is fairly dry no matter how much you batter it up, but Dr. Chacko is amazing.

Kindest & most enthusiastic prof I've had the pleasure of learning from. His lectures paint a cohesive picture. He opens up about his own geology-passions and inspires curiosity & interest in the subject. He actually made chemistry fun... By learning student's names he made everyone feel like they mattered. Always helpful. Deserves another award!

Not enough good things to say about Tom. If you're able to think of a single legitimately bad thing to say about him, you probably have a bleak outlook on life in general. Go to his class! You'll understand everything he teaches you - if you don't, he'll go out of his way to make sure that you do eventually. A gentleman, scholar, and model citizen.

Honestly the best EAS professor at the University of Alberta! Easily approachable, extremely helpful. Concepts are taught extremely clearly. This guy cares about his students! He gets to know the student's names without being introduced to them. Highly recommended.

Comment:
Midterm was easy, the final was ridiculous. He told the class that he designed the exam to be a 2 hour exam, but very few people left before the full 3 hours was complete. The people that I talked to said it was one of the hardest exams they have taken. The concepts weren't difficult, it was just very long and complicated.

The man is brilliant. Everything explained by him is crystal clear and even if you don't understand the first time, he is extremely helpful in office hours. I felt he went at a good pace as well; each class wouldn't be a DATA DUMP. He always asks if anyone has any questions and will take the time to make sure you understand the concepts. PERFECT.

very good prof, you dont even need the text. But if you follow his notes and read the text you will do great. Just a note for the EAS 101 or 100 you NEED the text for the second half of the term as they switch profs.
