I LOVED TROY! It's very obvious how passionate he is about teaching, and he tries his best to be fair to everyone. Everything on the exams is from lecture (lots of memorization!), so don't skip. He may be a little intimidating, but his office hours are a life-saver. Overall, I really enjoyed this class!

He's a great lecturer and really cares about his students. This class is lecture based so listen to everything he has to say. Write it down as well as the lecture slides and you will be fine, but listening is key. He takes attendance randomly with a few easy pop quizzes. Studying lecture notes very well will give you a good grade.

Troy was a great teacher and made it all of the content pretty easy to understand. The exams are based off of anything he says in lecture, and he doesn't post power points online so you HAVE to show up to class and take good notes. 4 MC exams that basically require you to memorize all of your notes(he asks a lot of detail-oriented questions).

Class is based on 4 exams, all content comes from lectures, does not post slides. Class is loosely based on the textbook but majority of learning is supposed to come from his rambling anecdotes. Not worth the work required from a class that doesn't even have a dept. Can not emphasize enough how much I do not recommend taking Kimmel.

He obviously loves the topic, but can't teach it well. The only grades for the class are exams based on the lecture. The lecture is based off a dense powerpoint that he doesn't publish for the class. Computer notes are not allowed in his class, so you either have to write fast or have an insanely good memory. I wish I'd dropped this class!

I only missed class once because I was sick, took notes over everything he said and put on the powerpoints, STUDIED, and I still got a D. I felt like some questions on the tests had nothing to do with things he talked about in lecture or at least you have to have a VERY STRONG understanding of the topics, which can be complex. I wish I dropped it!

Professor Kimmel seems like a really great guy and was always super nice when I went in for office hours but his class is easily the hardest thing I've ever taken at this school. TAKE A DIFFERENT SCIENCE. He only bases the tests on what he says in class and doesn't put up the powerpoints so studying for the tricky tests is extremely hard

This is definitely not your easy A science class. There are 4 tests, 1 massive geography test that counts very a small amount of your grade, and a cumulative final. Tests are based highly on lecture, literally anything he says can be on it and he says a lot, he's really passionate about the subject. Attendance is randomly taken for a grade

Kimmel is a funny guy and is very passionate about this subject matter. The lectures can get a little boring at times but you need to pay attention to what he says because that's where the most important information comes from. There are 4 tests, one is dropped, a final, a geography map test, and random attendance questions.

Troy's a great professor but this class is not easy. Really study a lot for each exam and you can get an A. Memorize all of the notes and show up to lecture. I thought the final was a little tricky because it had more charts and numbers and illustrations. Also, the place name exam and attendance are easy grade boosters so don't mess that up.

Troy is a straight shooter and a stand up character. His lectures are a pleasure to attend and I come away knowing something novel about the weather or reality. The square cap system was used for attendance purposes, however attendance could have been taken without mandating that students purchase the program. Overall, a solid course!

Prof. Kimmel was a very kind and caring professor, but you will DEFINITELY not pass if you skip the class. I DO NOT recommend taking this class just for the credit unless you are actually interested in this topic. The good thing is he drops the lowest grade, but does not put power points online, which is sad.

this isn't your easy blow off class, lots of work needs to be put into this class. it's not hard but lots of time dedicated to straight memorization; defs would not recommend as an 'easy A' class esp if it's your senior year lmao

If you are not interested in weather, this is not for you. I took this as a non-science major core class and struggled as it was not my biggest interest. Most of Troy's students love him though which makes the class bearable. Class is based on 4 tests, a huge geography test (only 50 points of 1000), attendance questions, and a final.

You must attend class to pass. He's SUPER nice and wants you to succeed, so go to his office hours! Some people don't care for him, but he's got a good heart and makes funny jokes. He really does care about his students.

my favorite class I took this semester!! class is really interesting even though it has nothing to do with my major. I leave class everyday feeling like I actually really learned something, & I love being able to apply my weather skillz in real life lol. Tests aren't too bad if you really study (quizlet!!). stay on top of material & u will b fine!!

If you are NOT interested in weather, I would not take this class. If you do find it interesting, this might be for you! His tests are based solely on lecture and he has said he does not care if you read the text. You do need to come to class as he does random attendance checks. A lot of material, but overall easy enough if you memorize your notes!

Troy is probably the best professor I've ever had. The class is entirely lecture based (you don't need to buy the book) so you can't get by with skipping, but he really cares about his students and what he teaches. There's a lot of material for each test so if you don't plan on studying, don't expect an A, but the class is fantastic and so is he.

Good professor overall, just a very difficult class. There is a ton of content expected to be memorized and understood 100% for each exam. Really not many grades outside of exams so you better do well. Tough class, if not your major I would not take, theres definitely easier classes. 4 exams, 1 geography exam , 1 final, and attendance marks.

One of the best courses i've taken! I am a non-science major and took this course to fulfill my natural science II credit, best decision I ever made! As long as your okay with attending lectures, and taking notes you'll do great in the course! He's always available for office hours, and really wants to see his students succeed. Highly reccomend!
