Comment:
Not the most clear lecturer in all honesty, but that might be due to his heavy accent. Sometimes it's difficult to understand what's going on, but his exams are open notes which is a plus. Just make sure you go to class and write down his lecture problems because those appear on the exams. Pretty funny guy too. Exam FRQ's are easy, MC kinda hard.

You are able to use your own notes, just make sure they are all handwritten. writing everything he says in class; especially the work-problem in-class and workshop's problem as well. Definitely do the textbook problems. His last midterm and final are kinda tricky.

Yes, Samoshin can come off rude sometimes, but don't let others convince you how terrible of a prof he is. He teaches you the easy way, while skipping the unnecessary stuff. You just have to spend time practicing, and not just look at answers. There are 4 exams 110+pts each. 400/440 on exams+270/300 in lab earns you an A w/o final. IT IS POSSIBLE.

Dk about his OChem, but definitely the easiest Chem25 professor at UOP. His tests are open note (but you still need to know what you are doing for the notes to actually benefit you), he gives extra credit if he sees you participate or go to his office hours, and test qs are very fair. I see how people get intimidated by him, but they rly shouldnt.

Dr. Samoshin began allowing the use of lecture notes during exams this past school year, which really helps! He doesnt exactly curve, but each of his exams are graded out of 110 points, even though you can score WAY more than that. Regarding his lectures, if you dont understand it, its super easy to follow along in the textbook later instead.

Extremely tough grader. Read the textbook and GO TO WORKSHOP AND DO THE PROBLEMS WITHIN EACH CHAPTERS. If you understand workshop and textbook, you're set for the exams. Exams normally 19-20 questions, 15 MC & 4-5 FRQ. Go to workshop. & class because he randomly does sign in sheets in clas to give extra points to those who went to lecture that day,

Dr. Samoshin is actually a very straightforward professor. He'll teach you the "easier" way to do things. He does appreciate audience interaction. Students that answer questions in class get extra credit because he appreciates that you're paying attention and involved in what he's trying to teach. He's very helpful if you go to his office hours!

Heavy accent, hard to understand. Tests cover material never mentioned or went over in class. Embarrasses you when you answer a question wrong during lecture. Hands back tests in the order of highest score. Class average under 40% and did not curve. Not a helpful teacher and he makes you feel like you are stupid. Only cares about his reputation

Prof. Samoshin is pretty notorious for being hard, but understand the material is difficult material- he is very clear about his expectations so the only problem people run into is balancing this class with their other classes. He seems scary but he is definitely willing to help in office hours. Go to workshop and you'll be fine.

I hear many complaints but this was 1 of my fave classes, I don't usually enjoy chem. He's helpful when you ask for it, has a quirky sense of humor, and I got an A w/out taking the final. All FR qs are ones he does in class! Some complain that he doesn't show his work on the board... this is college, no one shows simple algebra. Sit up front!

He's only hard if you don't work. He's always helpful when you ask him questions, sometimes he over explains but that's okay. When appropriate he tells you to seek answers yourself. People don't take him because he's at 8am and he's hard but I believe he's worth it. Go to lecture and participate! It's possible to get an A without the final.

Ochem as a topic is very difficult, but Samoshin does a great job lecturing and has very fair exams. He is available for questions whenever, and offers a lot of extra credit. If he sees you are a hard working student who attends class, does all the work, attends office hours, and studies you will do fine and he will bump you if you are boarderline.

He has a bad rap for being really hard and mean. Honestly, he's just very particular about what he wants, which is good because you SHOULD WANT what is RIGHT and not what is EASY. He is one of the best Professors and I learned a lot more than ANY other professor.

Dr. Samoshin is the best ochem professor, hands down! I took him for both chem 121&123 and passed with flying colors. His lectures are straight to the pt and you don't need the book if you go to class and pay attention. He really wants his students to excel in order to succeed in grad school. He's really funny too!

He's a good professor and provides many opportunities for extra credit in lecture/on exams. He expects you to do all book/example problems from lecture because they tend to be on the exams. For those who say Samoshin is a bad prof, ochem itself is a difficult subject. He gives you all the tools necessary to to pass, you just have to use them.

I had a really tough time with Organic Chemistry until I met this instructor. He does a very good job of explaining the material and is always available before and after class to answer questions. I highly recommend taking his class, but be ready to work. It's not an easy A.

ADVISE NOT TO TAKE! his test are unfair. doesn't give any partial credit even if you get all of it right and draw an extra bond line. gave out harder test to people who he thought cheated. if you didnt show work on your multiple choice, he assumed you cheated and gave you no credit. stay away!

This professor is unapproachable and never willing to listen. His grading style is either have it exactly how he wants it, or you get a 0 on the problem. Nothing in between. Our class averages were mid 40% when I took him, and not because the exams were hard, but his grading is unreasonable.

nearly half the class dropped by the end of the semester. he doesnt curve. i wouldn't recommend him. but if you're willing to work hard, go to workshop, go in for extra help, and speak up in class, and your good at chem...take him
