Y'all are crazy, Tschinkel is one of the, if not THE, best professors at FSU. He's everything an internationally renown university professor/scientist should be. Yeah, you have to study and work for it, but that's for good reason. James Baldwin reminds us that a child thinks they can't get through life painlessly, a man knows he must pay his dues.

Took in '01. Yes, it's a tough class. I got an A because he lists every possible exam question all semester, which I dove into after a bad midterm. I found a study buddy & wrote 1-2 paragraph answers to each question, well before the exam. When I wasn't clear, I emailed questions. He always wrote back, and would rephrase if I didn't understand.

Smart professor but terrible teacher! His goal is to prove that you have learned nothing in previous classes. Expect to be graded on physics, trig, weather etc. Everything in the text and mentioned in class is fair game. Pay close attention to ALL definitions, BMR, and weather even if it seems meaningless to you at the time. He curves at the end.

Hes a brilliant and charming man but its in your best interest not to take any of his classes. My bio advisor insisted I warn any potential students of the harm he will inflict on your GPA. He was barred from teaching bioII because he failed too many students.

The only way I even made a D in the class is from reading the entire textbook and lab manual. He has a monotone voice, & after 60% of the class failed his midterm, he called us all pathetic. He also makes sex jokes all the time. Exams are impossible to pass. I study for this class about 8 hours a week and still made a D.

After attending Florida State for over three years, I can honestly say that this guy was the absolute worst professor I have ever had. All exams for the lecture portion were in essay format, and the grading was ridiculously hard with absolutely no constructive feedback. WAIT TO TAKE THIS CLASS WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!

DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! Seriously the worst teacher I've ever had, I don't understand why he's still teaching. Insults the students, makes test impossible (all essay - and if you don't say it exactly right, he marks you off). Drones on in class and makes it hard to care about the class. Don't take, even if you have to wait a semester to take it again

This class is an awesome class. If you do what he says, you will learn a lot. The fact of the matter is, it's just too much for a 2 hour course. Too much information. Tschinkel didn't do what was necessary to teach the material. It required too much student initiative. Normally id love that, but not for a class with 250 some people. DO NOT TAKE

The lecture portion is comical; Dr. Tschinkel drones through redundant slides and then occasionally wakes himself from his stupor to make passive aggressive remarks about the quality of the students in the class. If you can avoid him, do so. The TAs range from amazing to disinterested; just realize this class is all about compare/contrast.

One of the best biology professors I've had. Yes, the class could sometimes be difficult, but not impossible..he just expects you to remember what you've learned in other classes, which isn't unreasonable for him to ask of you. Almost 100% of the test and quiz answers you could find or interpret from his powerpoints and/or lecture notes.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TEACHER. our test averages were always around 38 and he refused to curve. told our class if we did above the avg he might be able to work with u.. & if not then hes "not a miracle worker" his tests are the hardest ive ever encountered... never ever ever again. he makes u feel so dumb

he is a jerk, really. his tests are ridiculously hard and he has no grading rubric. on an essay question i got 10/15 and my friend got 12/15 and we had the same points in our essay. when i asked him for help on how i should study he told me that he would sign my drop form for the class. he is very rude and makes you hate biology! the animal diversity lab is a million times harder with him than with any other teacher. its already a tough class, don't make it worse on yourself by taking him. CUMULATIVE POP ESSAY TESTS. RUDE to students. most people failed. on the up side, he himself is very knowledgeable.

I'll be honest he is a very tough teacher. Doesn't believe in multiple choice so EVERYTHING is essays. Weekly tests, but becuase of it I actually learned the material. The TA's are awesome, especially Lauren. Tough class and A LOT of studying for a 2 credit class. If you wanna learn the stuff take him, if you really don't care then I suggest Spears

Old school teacher that wants you to learn the material rather than memorize it. Helpful if you show interest in the topics. For two credit hours, it's alot of work, especially the lab work. Take Dr. Tschinkel if you want to learn regardless of what your grade will be.

Avoid at all costs even if you have to wait a semester before taking it with him. Very stingy grader. He is brilliant but he was not meant to teach. I will never take another class with him and wouldn't ever recommend him.
