Dr. Free is extremely smart, he knows what he's talking about. The problem is he doesn't want to be there, he even said it's the only thing he has left. He just doesn't want to teach and you can definitely tell in the way he teaches and grades.

This professor may be the worst professor I have EVER had. Every assignment turned in receives 0 feedback. I tried emailing him and he sent me the same generic response he sent the whole class. Also, despite being an English professor, he spells things wrong in ALL of his assignments and emails. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class.

Professor Free is by far the worst English professor I have ever encountered. I took his class online and he has zero idea how technology works and replied to none of my emails. He only would talk to me during his office hours. He grades super harshly and gives no feedback as to why you got the grade you revived. Avoid his classes if you can

This is probably the worst class i have taken. The teacher talks about the assignments and when he asks a question and is given a wrong answer he just says "no" With no reason why it is wrong. Just shoots you down to make you not want to give anymore answers in class. Best of luck if you take his class. You will understand what i am saying

Expectations were vague to me. That's probably partly due to the nature of the class. Many students in the class seemed bored & disliking of the material & didn't seem to respect the teacher much. Reading fiction sounds easy but it isn't; I'd take it pass/fail if I were you. Material is all about race & sex without any "acceptable" explanation.

What he wants from your papers come directly from the course material. If you even halfway pay attention he gives you the answers he wants, and you can always go see him in his office where he'll help you. The problem isn't him, it's people that don't care and don't try in the class and then wonder why they fail. A class that makes you work? Crazy.

I would never take any of his classes again. He always talks about sex. He never clearly explains anything. Can barely see, read, or hear. There is no information given on anything ahead of time. Expected to write 10 page papers on prompts that aren't even complete in themselves.

Somehow ties EVERYTHING to sex, makes the class very uncomfortable. One of the hardest graders I've ever had. No rubrics for assignments. No extra credit or re-write opportunities. Would not recommend for any class!

He's absolute terrible professor. Talks about sex more than anything, and makes anything into sex. TOUGH grader, isn't very polite on papers. I would say to wait until there's another professor (I would recommend Lunquist, she's amazing!). Didn't learn anything in his lectures, and the homework was to vague. Get ready to write your hand off.

He does not do a good job teaching. His instructions are always unclear and there are TWO 8-10 page papers that he doesn't help you understand how to complete them whatsoever. His words are unclear, do not recommend. He seriously just needs to retire.

None of the guidelines on the papers were clear. No rubrics were given. Basically a lecture class & it's very hard to understand him, so sit in the front. He grades hard, considering there were NO rubrics. Never responds to emails. Would NOT recommend.

Wouldn't take him again. Straight lecture with occasional quizzes. Lectures did not present a balanced view. Grades mostly based on essays and tests. If you attend class, you can skim the books; most can be found online for free. Pretty easy, but not fun.

Reading Poetry class was awful. I loved poetry until I took this class. EVERYTHING related back to sex, and even if that was the meaning behind those lines, I didn't understand why we ONLY talked about poems that were about sex. It was funny at first, but it soon became quite annoying and almost upsetting. I hated that class.

Few professors have made me laugh as much as Free has. Anyone who complains about him most likely didn't take the time to come to class and LISTEN to what was being said. This guy has years of experience in the English field, and it was truly an honor to have him as a professor. Poetry, the good kind, is perverse. Some people need to grow up...
