Prof Yang is the sweetest and most caring prof Ive had at courant. Tons of examples, homework is almost all applications, no theoretical problems. No ridiculous exams, you get what you expect. Take him if you have a chance, youll learn tons and get a good grade if youre willing to put in the minimum work.

Comment:
Advanced Linear & Complex would get theoretical and dull at times, even for someone like me, who enjoys the abstraction. Professor Yang, in all his eccentricity, made the stuff clear and well-organized. He was very excited about the material and approachable. It was nice of him to allow a small exam cheat sheet, as the class was heavy on formulae.

Yang is a great professor. He's easy to follow in lectures as long as you can get past his accent. He told us about a party he went to during Thanksgiving break. He's so funny. One of the best math professors at the school to be sure if you want to learn the subject. But beware... a LOT of homework!

One of the best professors at Tandon. Always open to suggestions on how to improve, cares for his students, and genuinely tries to make sure you understand the concept as opposed to saying "just do this, that, this, and then you have your answer". If you can ever take a class with this guy, DO IT

Yisong Yang fully believes in hard work. You really have to work for a good grade in his class. Expect 20 question long homework that take 10 hours a week, But it's all worth it because his tests are "designed to reward students who do their homework." He's very nice and always asks how you're doing, but the course it not easy. Expect to work hard

His lectures are very clear and can actually help you understand the material. You should be able to do the homeworks as long as you pay attention in class.

Comment:
Excellent and clear lectures (albeit with a thick accent). I took some issue with the structure of the material, but the pedagogy was otherwise sound. Very helpful outside of lecture and willing to help and look out for students that showed dedication. A lot of (optional) homework was assigned but was wonderful for driving home the material.

Yang makes it very obvious that he strives for students' understanding of the material more than anything else. He is very open about students giving him suggestions on what could be better about his class. His lecture notes are very clear, as is his teaching style. His grading is extremely fair, and he tells you exactly what to expect on exams.

Professor's teaching method is very homogeneous, but inconsistent at times. However, demonstrates exceptional fashion sense given his selection of hat apparel.

Comment:
His teaching method is super abstract, to the point that you forget what subject the class is. There are no concrete examples in his class that help you understand the difficult concepts. The notes are pretty useless. I'm not exaggerating; I had him twice and he is one of the only two profs I ever got a B from.

Explains things very slowly and carefully. Makes sure you understand. Actually writes notes on the board that make sense. I finally understand math thanks to him.
