Comment:

A gentleman and a great instructor. Explains things clearly and has a passion for the material. Show up to class - slides are on Blackboard but they aren't detailed. There's no final exam, but the tests cover every topic in each section, so be prepared. The final project is easy and pretty interesting.

Comment:

Jong man is one of the best professors in KU, his class is interesting, the exam maybe hard, but he will give curve. The final project is easy.

Comment:

Dr. Jongman is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people in the department and probably the University. Attendance isn't mandatory (he posts all his lecture slides online), but I wanted to go! He made me want to learn. I feel lucky to have had him as a professor.

Comment:

He is a nice guy who can make a relatively boring lecture fairly interesting. He posts slides on blackboard, but attendance is mandatory for a full understanding. It's easy to fall behind, so don't let yourself. Tests aren't hard if you understand material. He can sometimes lecture very quickly, which can be difficult. Not bad, overall.

The class was pretty easy as long as you are able to memorize the IPA inclucing clicks etc. Jongman was very knowledgeable and made the class fun. The final project sounded like it was going to be difficult, but ended up being easy and interesting.

Comment:

Professor Jongman is sassy, challenging, knowledgeable, fun and an overall badass. He makes any linguistics class I've taken an awesome AND educational experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my career. His classes aren't hard, but nonetheless require you to put forth a valiant effort if you want to do well. Show up to class !

He's a really great professor. He's funny, enthusiastic, and obviously loves to teach. Tests and assignments are very fair, and he's really helpful in and outside of class. Take any course from him that you can, but nevertheless be prepared to work pretty hard. He grades on a curve and grades quite fairly.

He is a great teacher and super nice guy. Phonetics can get pretty technical with articulation, spectrograms, transcription and such. Learning IPA is awesome and soooo helpful!! The class is worth taking! Watch out for the final though, it was tough...drawing a spectrogram and explaining possible articulations and hard mult. choice. STUDY!

Comment:

Very difficult class. You have to go to class to get a good grade. If you miss a lecture, you'll be very far behind. He's very helpful though, and really wants to help you get a good grade. This is not a bs course. You have to try hard, but he gives you a lot of opportunities to succeed.

He is so cute. This is an incredibly difficult class, but Allard is a wonderful professor. He will explain something as many times as it takes for his students to understand.SO willing to help out students anytime and really does a lot to make himself available. I'd take another class from him.
