Great professor, and really enjoyable course -- especially if you enjoy public speaking. Lots of hands on work in class, but pretty minimal amount of work outside of class (except for writing 3 major speeches throughout the semester). Bill creates a really fun learning environment.

One of the best classes I've taken at WashU. Bill is an amazing professor who makes each class fun to attend. He expects a lot from his students and you need to do work outside of class, but he's a reasonable grader. Definitely take Bill's classes if possible!

Simply put, Bill's great. He has a way of guiding you and helping you think about your work in many different ways without micromanaging it. He's a big fan of the actor's impulse and puts a lot of trust in his students to work together in order to produce the best work possible. He asks a lot, but if you're willing to do the work, you'll be fine.

Bill is a great director, but not a particularly great directing professor - he has a hard time codifiying what he wants from you and how he's responding to your piece, his comments are often along the lines of "I don't know what it is about that music that is making me go 'hmmmm,' you know?" He grades easily and does not read your dir. notebook.

The warm ups and exercizes were fun, but it's not the safest environment for growing as an actor. His comments on scenework were often vague, along the lines of "it's not working for me." Good if you're a spontaneous actor. Was always very available to help outside of class.

He's good at explaining things and obviously really cares about what he's teaching. He cares so much, apparently, that he screamed at and berated students in front of the class more than once for not coming on time or not having memorized. Take the class, but watch yourself.
