One of the best professors I've ever had! He truly loves history and cares about helping students develop a love for it as well. He'll do everything he can to make the content relevant to you and will always help you if you're having trouble with something. Class was fun & our grade consisted of a few projects we worked on throughout the semester.

Professor Donaldson gives really great and interesting lectures! The work load is not that bad, as long as you can keep up with the weekly textbook readings. If you do all of the reading, go to class, and go to recitation, you will be able to get the grade you want!

He posts the power points from his lectures online but the power points are mostly pictures so they aren't much help. You get study guides before each test but the study guide is just a list of all things discussed since the last test so not all of it is not on the test. The TA's grade your exams so depending on which 1 you get you might be screwed

Solid professor who I would recommend for HIST 112. Lectures are not mandatory. The study guides are very comprehensive and the exams fairly easy. Discussion quizzes are too bad. Overall not too hard and I would take

Dr. Donaldson made lectures interesting for me even though I really dont like history. Attendance wasnt mandatory, but the lectures were beneficial. We had 3 exams including the final, and he gave us an extra credit opportunity to add 12% points to our final exam grade. Your grade will be determined by your effort on reading the textbooks.

Donaldson is a nice guy, but his lectures are really lacking substance. They are hard to follow and he jumps all over the place, moving onto the next topic before adequately explaining the fist. Tests aren't too hard, and he gives out good study guides beforehand. Tests consist of some multiple choice, short answer, and then a larger essay.

Lecture was boring and didn't retain anything from it so I only went to a few. You have to really study for the exams and if you do you'll be fine, he gives out good study guides and as long as you pretty much memorize those you'll be fine. Exams are pretty fair but again you really have to study to do well.

he is very passionate about what he teaches, but focuses on weird and specific things that don't really make sense and he barely explains anything. all the lectures are disgustingly boring and attendance isn't mandatory and it's pretty pointless to go. he seems like a really nice guy but i've learned nothing in this class and it's just so so hard

I really enjoyed Dr. Donaldson's history class. The exams were fair and I did very well on all of them, as a Biology major. Just show up to class and actually put in effort and you'll do well.

Best professor I've had so far. I loved his local perspective on US history. He explains national issues and how they were manifested here in Columbia. He is lecture heavy but if you ever have a chance to speak with him in person he is an AMAZING guy. I had a TA for my class that most of the grading. We only had to write one paper.

His powerpoints are mostly photos and outlines the textbook so come to class and listen. He only teaches from the textbook though so it's helpful to have that to study. The entire class is three tests and one essay. Everything is graded by the TA and participation in your TAs class is a grade. Nice guy and gives good lectures.

Not an easy A but not impossible. It all honestly depends on your TA. Some are really hard, while some are super easy. You'll have to read 40 pages a week, sometimes 80, which isn't awful. Donaldson himself was a great professor, and I learned a lot from him! I would definitely take him again if I could. (Don't study for tests last minute!)

Professor Donaldson really knows what he's talking about, but his lectures are VERY hard to follow. Discussion class with your TA in mandatory, that's where your pop quizzes are. However, if you pay attention, take good notes, and go to discussion class, you should do well.

Worst class I have taken. Donaldson is a nice guy but this course should not be nearly as hard as it is. He focuses on very random things and exams are insanely hard with no idea of what may be on it. You have to read 50+ pages of the book weekly to even try and stay up to speed and do well on discussion quizzes. DONT TAKE HIM

I enjoy History, but not this course. I really tried to like this class all semester, but hes hard to follow and focuses too much on random details that he thinks are important rather than the course of history. He never goes in order and neither do the required books. I would definitely recommend any other teacher for this course.

This guy has great ratings on here so i signed up for his class. His powerpoints are all pictures and quotes (not helpful). He lectures completely out of order and he doesnt follow the book. In order to get a good grade you MUST read the 50 pgs a week of textbook. Mentions random people in class and then asks about them on the test. dont take it

I took his Civil Rights in SC class. I'm a biology major and needed a history credit. I got an A in the course but he treated us like his class needed to be at the top of our priority list, and it wasn't for me. Amazing professor for history or related majors, but it's not an easy A. 2 papers and a presentation were the extent of the grade.

Donaldson is a really smart guy who knows a lot about history. His class was interesting but seemed to jump around a lot. It was kind of hard to follow sometimes.
