Comment:
Professor Campbell is slightly disorganized in this class. He tries to fit in more material then he should, which leads to excessive reading. In class we have impromptu presentations and class discussions on the readings. He is a very caring teacher and is usually interesting to hear lecture. Overall, a pretty good but reading intensive seminar.

I love Professor Campbell! He is one of the most genuinely caring professors I've met at W&M and he is so passionate about what he teaches. I wish all professors used his same relaxed teaching approach because I still feel like I learned so much but wasn't overwhelmed with work over the semester.

Lots and Lots and Lots of readings but as long as you do them and are really passionate in class about what you think, you'll be more than fine

Mega great readings, super saucy professor. Professor Campbell always brings a new perspective to his classes and definitely keeps things interesting! I always learn something new in his class, and he's top of his field.

Campbell and Elena Prokhorova's Eastern Front class was great! While there was a lot of reading and weekly film viewings, we only had two actual assignments: an 8-10 page book review and 12-14 page final paper. I really liked how the class gave us a theoretical framework through which to view the Eastern front, yet encouraged independent research.

He's nice enough, good about due dates and stuff, but his class is deathly dull. Ninety minutes of him alternately shouting and then saying things very quietly that he thinks are profound(sometimes they are). A lot of godawful obtuse readings, but you can get by without even looking at them. The papers are huge but not too bad if you get on them.

Bruce is one of the most caring professors William and Mary has to offer. He not only cares about the subject he teaches, but also cares about the students he teaches. Bruce is easy to talk to outside of class and understands college students very well. His classes go into more detail than the average boring class - it's great!

Solid class and teacher, very flexible with due dates on papers and assignments. However he talks to himself for the majority of his classes and acts like he knows everything. He often makes comments like that is not my job when asked a question relevant to the class material.

Awful human being, as well as professor. Goes on long rants about how Americans are fat, lazy failures. Thinks he's brilliant, but couldn't be farther from it. Take a European history course, you'd be getting basically the same thing with what HAS to be a better professor. Easy class, all take home mid-terms/finals, etc.

His courses are the hardest ones I've taken here so far, but he's an excellent professor and very enthusiatic about the topic. He's a nice guy and almost always willing to negotiate assignment deadlines as needed. I even wound up eating bratwurst, gingerbread, and apple strudel at his house for an assignment once!

Wonderful man! He's easy to talk to, understanding about deadlines, and really gets the class involved in discussions. The term paper was rather difficult, but as this was a Freshman Seminar (in English) he really went out of his way to help the class ease into college life. A worthwhile class, and a great teacher.

Great guy. Great Professor. Will help you out with anything, even if its unrelated to the class. Sympathetic and flexible about due dates if you need a bit of extra time, go talk to him about it. He has an amazing knowledge of what he teaches and is increadibly enthusiastic about it. Tiny bit eccentric, but that keeps things interesting.

His class was relatively easy. The readings are not very interesting, and he doesn't grade very hard on grammar, so if you know some German already you'll be fine. just impress him with the final paper.

He's interesting and helpful but very unorganized. He doesn't grade terribly hard on grammar. His lectures are sometimes dry and some of the reading is ridiculously hard and uninteresting. But it doesn't matter because the final and midterm are papers. Although they are both in German.

Comment:
His lecturing style is disliked among many German students, but I find his lectures interesting for the most part. He's flexible and a great help with research and grant work. He has a keen sense of who has looked over the reading assignments and who is merely holding the printed PDF in their lap.
