Comment:
Professor Miller is one of the BEST professors I've ever had at Wesleyan. Workload is heavy, but she has very clear criteria on what she expects from our papers. The discussions in class are extremely mind-opening. Would love to take her class again, and you will regret graduating without taking one of Miller's classes here.

Prof. Miller is tough as nails, but nothing to be scared of. She is a real delight to have as a teacher and pushed me to reach my highest potential as a student. If you have the opportunity to take her class, you should do it.

She assigns so much reading, and it almost makes the class not worth the pain that the amount of reading she assigns. However, I am now a better (and smarter) reader, and she made me realize what I poor writer I was. She makes you want to be a better academic, while forging personal connections with students. She is genuinely interested them.

Classes are incredibly stressful but the discussions are definitely intellectually stimulating. miller works you so hard that you are forced to push the boundaries of your own intellectual learning. definitely take a class with her before you leave college !!

Hands down the best professor at Wes. But if you thought you were good at writing before, you thought wrong. Her class that might kill your gpa but will be one of your most worthwhile college experiences.

Very hard grader, plus I sometimes got higher grades on things I had written right before class than things I had put hours into, oddly. Also doesn't let students leave to go to the bathroom and sometimes just reads her lecture off of sheets of paper. Not very engaging, though the material was interesting.

Very smart. And very hard working. But let's face it, Wesleyan isn't Oxford. Still, she is very hot, but as one of the previous reviewers (from 2005) observes, "she is never satisfied".

It is only possible to do well in Cecilia Miller's class if you deliberately try to subvert every single strategy for doing well in a class. Her courses are meta in the extreme.

It's true that Professor Miller works you like a dog, but I found the experience to be worth it. She's extraordinarily dedicated to her students, and is more than willing to help you improve your writing and argumentation skills. She is brilliant and precise, sweet and interesting, and very approachable. My writing is much better because of her.

You will not have a normal relationship with this woman. Emphasizes certain skills at a great cost to all other you may have as a student/writer/thinker. Wants you to write "academically," papers are pretentious and impossible to do well on. Emphasizes form over content, logical argumentation over actual historical detail or accuracy.

All the rumors are true. We read 16 long texts in 1 semester. This is simultaneously the best and worst class I've ever taken. I learned a lot about myself and life and little else. Every other class you take @ Wes will seem easy compared to this. Even though everything about it is unreasonable, if I had a 2nd chance I would do it again.
