Take any class you possible can with Smart. He's hands-down the best professor at Vassar. Excellent lectures, always willing to help, and cracks some great jokes. Ignore the 8:30 lecture time, taking a class with him will be so worth it.

Comment:

Professor Smart is AMAZING. So helpful, so engaging, and so smart (no pun intended). Orgo is a hard class no matter who you take it with but Professor Smart makes it fun. He's a funny guy too, not a class goes by when the whole class doesn't burst out laughing. His lectures are very well-organized and he explains the material so well. Love him!

He's funny and engaging, and a fairly good teacher. I had some problems with the way the course was set up, but that was mostly a department thing/not about him. He will go to SUCH lengths to help you out if you ask for it (three pages of extra practice for one test alone) and although he's far from easy, he's very fair.

I took advanced orgo with him--he was by far the best teacher I've ever had. Absolutely brilliant, fair, and makes chemistry easy and intuitive.

best professor i've had at vassar. if you have to take orgo, take it with smart. he's hilarious, enthusiastic, really nice, and makes orgo as clear as possible. the material is really difficult but he makes it fun, and as long as you study your notes/the book like crazy you'll do fine. tests are very straightforward and based on the class notes

This course used an amazing textbook. The final Wikipedia project was also really cool. The course suffered from Professor Smart's disorganization. Also, the course was not a top priority for him, which was unfortunate for the students. He's also incredibly difficult to get in touch with. Overall I enjoyed the class but it had some problems.

O-chem is one of the hardest classes at the school (maybe like quantum physics is harder?), and he is no exception. But he's super helpful in office hours and he's a stand up guy at the end of the day. Def recommended.
