Research methods is a pain, but Mr. Howard makes it bearable. definitely reading heavy and there is a necessity to be detail oriented in your writing. He is very accessible and loves to help out his students. Wouldn't have survived research methods without him!

Below a three for difficulty (at the time of this post) is very deceiving. Howard makes you work and work hard. The subject of Research Methods is very dry and difficult to read but he expects it all to be done so you can participate in class. The statistical analysis section is no walk in the park either. He's a good professor but it is very hard.

Christopher is a lovely, caring, and helpful angel. He is personable and approachable, and his assessments are a fair representation of class material. He deserves a chili pepper.

Professor Howard is the most caring professor I have ever been with. He knows each one in his class very well, and he replies email in just a few minutes. His lectures are super well organized. Keep taking notes online, which will be super helpful for preparing exams. Be prepared to read a lot, but he explains materials clearly enough.

Howard is a very, very good professor. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed. The class can drag on at times, but that's a problem that plagues research methods. If you want to learn how to research and write, all while having a helpful, clear professor, I'd highly recommend taking Howard.

Howard is the Definition of an Ideal Professor! Super caring, knowledgeable, inspiring, and professional. He tells you what he looks for in exams and daily readings. Clear expectations. He's willing to read your papers before you submit them! Fair grader. Look at your notes and exams are easy Most marvelous lectures. They always brightened my day.

Take Chris for 301 and 360 (in that order) if you want to make some sense of American public life. He's written books on both subjects. His classes have unparalleled organization, thought-provoking lectures, good humor, relevant readings, and sensible grading. Assignments rarely feel like a waste of time, and Chris truly puts students first.

Research Methods was not as bad as it could have been and I felt like I learned a lot from the class. His tests are pretty easy because he puts sample questions to prepare but he is a bit picky for essays. If you write your papers early enough, then he will look it over. Also, if you participate enough, he will give you a grade boost.

Howard is a fantastic professor truly one of my favorites at W&M. He is humorous, engaging, and knowledgable. His expectations are clear, and he gives detailed feedback in an effort to help you improve on papers throughout the semester. He is a fair grader, and is willing to give everyone in the class an A if they produce A work. Take his class!

Chris is one of the best gov't professors at WM. Don't go through the major without taking him once. I was proud to receive my diploma from his hand at graduation, and even after a couple years out of his class and losing touch, he still remembered me and congratulated me on graduating. He's a stand up guy that will help you succeed to your fullest

Took for senior seminar. Reading intensive - if you don't like medical or welfare policies get out. Lots of papers and assignments. Graded really hard on the final paper. Participation matters. Basically a lot of work but the class was ok. Howard was nice and he brought dunkin donuts munchkins one day so that was a plus.

I've taken RM and AWS with Howard. The former was bearable because of him, and the latter was my favorite class at W&M. Are his lectures thrilling? Not exactly but Howard can be hilarious at times, and you'll learn a lot. He's better at honing your critical thinking skills than almost any other prof--which is, y'know, kind of the point of college.

Howard is a good professor. As many others have already said, he does a pretty amazing job figuring that research methods is one of the most boring, dry (on par with chicken at the Caf) subjects possible. Class was enjoyable, notes were clear, and the tests were a little difficult but straight forward. Start early on the research proposal..trust me

Professor Howard is killin it. The subject matter is worse than watching paint dry but CH makes it enjoyable. Very clear about what to study for exams and always open to help if you visit his office hours. For those that have to take research methods, he is most definitely the guy to take it with. Give the man his chili pepper!!

One of my favorite professors at William and Mary. He assigns interesting readings, and lectures are very rarely dull. He's very helpful in assisting students with the research paper and will give you tons of good comments if you submit a rough draft to him. Exams aren't difficult if you do the readings and pay attention in class.

Presents material in a very clear, understandable manner. Grading is fair--you have several tests and a research paper--and a good grade is easily attainable if you prepare before tests. Also has a good dry sense of humor, if you can ever bring it out of him.

Dry subject, but Howard makes it bearable. His exams are straightforward and not too difficult. Way too much reading, but he goes over in detail what exactly you need to take from each one, so you can get away with skimming them. The research proposal requires a lot of work, but he is great about working with you outside of class. Great prof!

I took Research methods and Welfare State with Professor Howard. He's a really nice guy and his lectures are very clear (though you do have to take notes; what he posts online isn't very helpful). If you take notes and do the reading it's not hard to get a good grade. He's quite accessable outside of class, too.

Outstanding professor. He covers everything he expects you to know during class. There is a lot of reading, but he tells you what to focus in in the readings, so you don't spend time on irrelevant parts. If you go to class and read focusing on the study guides, then you will have no problem.

The best professor to take Research Methods with. The subject itself sucks, but Howard is awesome. Take good notes and the readings are not all necessary (just skim to find important parts). Research proposal is fun but completely inapplicable unless you are doing an Honors thesis or Monroe Scholars project. Got an A with mild effort.
