I took Dr. Watkins my freshman year in college (2012). He was so good that 6 years later I'm leaving a post because the discussions we had in class, fueled by his thoughtful, digestible, and existentially significant way of communicating and engaging us, still mean the world to me. Happy retirement !

Comment:

Very good professor. He makes class discussion fun and interesting. He is very helpful with assignments and papers. He is very descriptive and open to discussion. He likes to discuss different opinions on the subject so class won't get boring. Downside is attendance is mandatory, but its not terrible. Overall, great professor.

Dr. Watkins is absolutely amazing. At first I was intimidated because he speaks loudly and looks like a woodsman, but he is so kind, caring, funny, humble, and helpful. He's a great guy! If you like poetry he's the guy to take :) Also, the class is basically just discussion with two tests that he preps you for. Totally doable!

Comment:

Dr. Watkins is quite possibly the single nicest person I have ever met. He clearly loves what he does and is knowledgeable enough about so much that he is comfortable letting the students lead the conversation. Yes attendence is mandatory and sometimes the material can seem dry but he is so fun I always wanted to go to class. Highly recommended.

Attendance is a must! Papers assigned get put off and when he does grade them there is no constructive criticism. Will basically rewrite your paper in his words and say you can't write since it's not his language. No help at all in class and a tough grader. I will never take one of his classes again!

Dr. Watkins is very kind and respectful; you can tell he loves teaching. The only thing that could have made the class better would be class discussions - it was mostly him lecturing to us, but even that was ok because he really helped me learn the material.

The idea for the class was very interesting, however I wish he would have mixed in something else rather than always lecturing, but I love this man! He has the best laugh and is very knowledgeable about his subject as well as passionate. Tried his hardest to answer questions and help. I love his jokes. I recommend him any day of the week!

This had to be my favorite class of the semester. Music fridays were always something to look foward to and all you had to do was read the book and show up for the midterm and the final. Dr. Watkins is an amazing professor and I would take anything that he was teaching

If this man was not already married, I would propose to him. haha. no really though, he is a fantastic teacher. even if the material sucks, he makes it interesting. he is the nicest guy in the world and it shows in his teaching. he makes the class laugh and he is very understanding and a good grader. my advice it to take any class that he teaches.

Dr. Watkins is a fabulous and inspirational professor. He expertly fascilitates class discussion, and provides a comfortable learning environment. He remains focussed on the material at hand, but always has a fascinating anecdote about the writers involved to further animate the texts he discusses. His knowledge of Romanticism is truly astonishing. His lectures are enthralling, his advice concerning paper topics is invaluable, and he always takes the time to offer an encouraging word.

This guy is amazing! While the material he has to teach isn't always the most interesting, he makes it interesting. He explains everything very clearly, and grades fairly. He's a really good guy, always willing to talk to you.
