Comment:

Dr. Wacker means well and is very respected, but is very hard to pay attention to as he uses the classic/more traditional ways of teaching math. He knows the subject well but doesn't always explain well. The class is extremely test heavy with 2-3 online homework assignments due every other class. Know stats WELL before taking his class!

Comment:

Dr. Wacker has made me enjoy math again. Calc II is not an easy class, but he explains everything so well and you can tell he cares about his students doing well. The lectures are engaging enough, and if you pay attention you'll pass. Definitely the best professor I've had so far. Wish he taught Calc III!

I love Dr. Wacker!! I was terrified of taking calc but he was an excellent teacher. He explains things really well and genuinely wants you to understand it. He is really helpful during office hours, too. If youre not a math person but need to take it, take him.

This is my second class with Dr. Wacker and I have enjoyed it both times. Calc 2 is a hard course to take in general out of the three Calc series. He takes things slow and is always able to answer any questions. If you make an effort to pay attention and follow along you will do fine. The sample exams/finals are just like the real tests.

Dr. Wacker is an excellent Calc I teacher. I think he makes it about as easy as it gets and he really wants people to do well. Exams are very similar to practice tests and you can pad your grade with homework and attendance.

Very very bland lectures and teaches so slow that it is extremely difficult to pay attention. Material isn't hard, just hard to pay attention. Tests are do-able

Dr. Wacker is a fantastic teacher and makes himself readily available to help you at any time. He does great examples in class and his tests are just like the samples he sends out. Absolutely would recommend!

He usually does not explain much and expects you to know the course before he has taught anything. During office hours he was not helpful. He was very degrading and condescending when he spoke because this was a lower level math course. If i had not taken Stats in high school, I would not have passed.

I HIGHLY recommend you take this man for calculus. He is such an amazing professor. He is funny, nice, engaging, and if you do the work, you'll get an A. He's getting a bit older so idk how much longer he'll be here so I recommend you take him. Best professor I've had at SLU so far. His Webwork can be a bit challenging but he'll help you anytime.

It astounds me people don't do well in his calculus class. He makes it so easy to do well. He puts up his worked out solutions to the homework online, gives homework quizzes (which if you look at his solutions and do the homework you'll do fine!), gives practice tests (which are JUST like the actual tests), and is a great, funny, engaging professor

If you want to enjoy learning calculus this is the right class for you! This guy makes fun with his jokes and humor. Overall, the tests are hard but you get a study guide which helps. Webworks are hard but helps your grade

Comment:

Very difficult class. Went from an A in pre-Calc to a D in Calc. He gives limited attempts in the web work homework and you are not given any credit for showing your work, unlike most professors. The tests are incredibly hard. Expect to spend an inordinate amount of time working in this class. The tutors didn't even understand the work.

Dr. Wacker knows his Calculus and does his best to relay the information to his students. He has clear-cut office hours and it is easy to contactreach-out to him for help. He is fairly condescending when asking questions though. He is also fairly nit-picky with his grading, partial credit is given at a minimum. The Webwork is rough too.

He's really helpful and always welcomes you to come in and talk when you have questions. The online homework was hard and it didn't correlate with what we learned in class and what was asked on the tests. You should definitely go to class because he factors that in if you have a borderline grade

I seemed to have wronged Dr. Wacker. That's how it seemed. I went into his office daily for help or clarification and it seemed to bother him. He was angry when I didn't understand something. The class loved him at first but then he became a smart aleck and it got old. He seemed somewhat condescending. Be prepared to feel stupid if you talk to him.

I have had a bad strong of math teachers here at SLU, and i was pleasantly surprised when Professor Wacker broke that streak. He is very helpful and actually pays attention to whether you're to how each of his students is doing in his classes. He gives great feedback on where to improve as well as how to understand the material better.

Comment:

Best professor I've had at SLU. He made Calc II painless. I worked hard, but he does his part too and gives you so many tools to succeed. His teaching style was clear and methodical. He's a very fair grader and willing to give you as much help as you need. I wish he could teach all of my math classes. He's super friendly outside of class too.

He is the best math teacher I have ever come across. He clearly states his point and there are no surprises on his tests or quizzes. Also, if you are struggling with anything he is more than willing to help during office hours.
