Took him Spring of 2017. He was really fun in his lectures honestly. If you can do the study guides, you'll pass the exams. I missed a lot of class for work-related events, and had no problems. There is a decent amount of rote memorization, but just cram the day before and you'll get an A. It's all multiple choice.

Dr. Palmer is truly great. Enthusiastic, decades of experience, clear lectures, easy exams, quick with a joke, practical knowledge regularly given out, no homework. We got him after our initial prof went on maternity leave and I wish we had him the whole semester. 10/10 would take again.

Comment:

I took All About the Oceans last semester and it was extremely difficult. The average on most of the exams was around a 65% but he does curve the final grade for the class. No matter how much I studied I struggled with all of the exams, and everyone else that I talked to in the class seemed to be doing worse than me.

I don't know anyone in this class that got an A... Tests are the only grades besides few in class activities writing responses. He is VERY dull and speaks in monotone. His lectures are long and disorganized; the longer he talks the farther he moves away from his main points. Bottom line, I would NOT recommend this class.

Palmer has a drifferent since of humor, but he is excellent at gettting his point across in his lectures. He even relectures if you ask a question! He's easily approachable and respectful to his students! Study Hard though and pay attention to quizzes and review sheets! Good Luck!! :) He's an excellent teacher!

Comment:

Palmer is a funny, brilliant guy. He genuinely WANTS his students to succeed, not just in class but also in the field. Attend class, take good notes, and ask a lot of questions and you will do well. Don't expect to skate by without putting forth effort. He expects you to take responsibility to learn the material unlike most professors now.

Firstly, to do well in his class you must sit near the front, as he is a soft talker. If you sit close enough you will hear him mutter funny things under his breath. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't do well if you don't go. So long as you pay attention you will love his class. I can't wait to have him again this year.

You can tell the reviews from the intro students from the majors. He will be the first one in your life to call you out on being lazy if you're a good student that doesn't put forth enough effort. Don't expect to take his class without reading the book or studying but he is very interesting and knows far more than you could ever imagine. Great prof

Some say he's dull, but I thought he was good, and I did well in the class. Sit up front and pay attention. He's funny and tells interesting stories. He wants you to do well, and he's more than willing to help. He really cares about the subject!

horrible very boring didnt help at all when i asked questions TELLS LONG BORING STORIES. This was a horrible experience I know lots of people who did horrible. even if you take notes and study its hard to understand and if you ask him a question he goes on for days with usless information

Really boring in class, so it was hard to pay attention. If you do go and are able to stay awake, he tries to be funny. I didn't open the book at all, went to most classes, and got an A. It's not a hard class if you're just looking for an LER.

Extremely boring. I fell asleep during class many, many times. I just couldn't help it. He's way too boring. Yeah he was nice and helped outside of class but he just... ugh. Bad experience with this guy. I studied by a$$ off with the book to make up for the lack of attention in class. Drink some coffee before this class, maybe that will help.
