He knows how to lead discussions well, and make theories learned super relevant. However! VERY Vague guidelines! Paper- 25%- marks SUPER HARD. 2 presentstions, also hard to do well. Particpation is easy marks. He definitely thinks about paychology in very old-fashioned way- psychoanalysis heavy. Take with someone else- trust me!

Dr. Avitzur remains my most inspirational & favourite professor. His lectures transcend the text, and he authentically promotes a dialogue where students can explore theory in a deep and meaningful way. He advocates for creativity and thinking outside of the box, and understands the students in front of him. His courses are for deep thinkers.

I learned a lot in this class in terms of Psychology and we got the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts to real-world examples. Professor Avitzur does not have a clear grading criteria and has unreasonably high expectations of his students. Gives vague responses to questions. Thinks about psych is mostly old-fashioned ways.

Understanding, caring, mindful professor. He keeps it real and can be blunt but its not in vain. He shows that he cares about his students and their success. He facilitates mindful discussion in the seminar and is always open to letting his students have discussions. He is a little vague in grading criteria and assignment outlines.

A really caring and passionate prof who expects the best of his students. While attendance is not necessary, the class is heavily based on group discussion. Be sure to read the textbook weekly as there are weekly pop quizzes to gauge your comprehension of the material. Not very difficult at all.

Amazing Professor! Dr. Avitzur is very caring and approachable. The course content was very interesting and he had great discussions in class. His grading criteria was fair, however he was a bit vague in terms of expectations from bigger assignments. I felt I grew as a person in this course which is great given that it was a counselling course

His ability to unite theoretical principles with one another, and in the practical sense, allowed me to make conceptual sense of psychological principles I had been introduced to in other courses. Beyond the course, Dr. Avitzur allowed me to learn about myself ( and the human condition) in a highly profound way. Amazing learning experience

Worst prof at York. You literally have to annoy him to get his help on anything, he is not helpful at all and is super disorganized. If you want to see him in private to discusssee your grades he will make you feel like you are inconveniencing his very precious minutes. Avoid at all costs.

Professor Avitzur's professional experience and expertise as a psychotherapist enhances his seminar classes, and the facilitation of discussion creates a space for collaboration and learning. His seminar in Developmental Psychology provided me with insight into the connections we can make from our childhood and has inspired me to continue my study.

Nice man , however his lectures have nothing to do w/ the textbook. He rambles on for the whole 3 hours- yes 3 hours w one 8 minute break. the lecture notes are used for the short answer section in exams. Text book material is dense and he expects us to thoroughly know both- short answer grading is very hard too. Avoid if you can.

Frustrating! His lectures move at an excruciatingly slow pace, the material he covers is Psych101 and a waste of time, 0 relevance to the book which is dense/boring in how it's written but the content is interesting and could be elaborated on rather than simple concepts stretched out for 3 hours. Have to attend as he doesn't post his slides.

The course content is very interesting! You MUST attend every class to understand the different developmental theories clearly. There is one quiz (it was absurd), we only had 20 minutes to complete it too. There is a group project as well where you get to pretend you're a psychologist and interview someone(my favourite part of the course).

The material that we learned was very interesting. However, Avitzur expects you to know your stuff so be prepared to participate! He can be intimidating and the quiz is ridiculous... but don't let that discourage you! Do NOT slack off in this class. There is an interesting project where you interview someone and track their development!(best part)

He's a nice professor who really wants to help his or her students with enthusiasm. You can talk to him freely during his office hour and you'll practically get some help to succeed in his class. I somewhat agree that his grading scheme was a bit weird and perhaps it seems unfair to someone else. I do not regret that I took his class on 4000-level
