Really nice professor every class is lecture based. 10 easy points every Friday on an online quiz. Tests are a little difficult if you haven't read the textbook. Class can be boring but is overall an easy class to take if you need a history credit.

Mr. Gilkeson is great teacher and I would advise anyone to take his class again. He makes the material very interesting and has an easy grading system. There are no tests in the course which made it a heck of a lot easier. You will learn how to be a better writer in this class than your English class.

Pretty straight forward class. Lectures during every class. Final grade is composed of 3 essays (worth 30pts each) and 10 weekly reflections (worth 1pt each). Overall good professor, definitely knows the subject well. Attendance is a must, just take good notes, do the reading and you'll be ok.

This professor has passion for the subject, but he has an extremely boring voice. It is a pure lecture class and is impossible to take notes as fast as he talks, not to mention he jumps around in his lecture. Reading is a must in the class for a decent grade. The only good aspect of this class is the tests are essay form.

WoW! this class had its interesting points but it takes a lot of reading 8 books to be exact. i tried taking notes but i coulnt help but falling asleep. He is very knowledgeable, and will tell you if something is outside his knowledge. overall lots of reading daily homework or test just papers on the book.

Although he can be a little boring, this class gives students the chance to do real history reading. Gilkeson can debate adn argue with the best historians, but if he isnt good on the topic, he will tell you. He is well informed. I took him twice and it was great both times.

He is MORE than knowledgeable about the subjects and this whole class is about reading. Be prepared to buy 6 books at the bookstore. The good is almost all the books have some kind of index. Which helps with the essays. Don't expect homework, tests or any of that. Its because you'll be reading!

Aww...give him a break, I hated History until I came to his class. He makes it interesting in some ways. He's very knowledgable about his History and tries to make it interesting. He is worth taking IF you want to learn.

Yes he does lecture all period but at least he's a nice guy. The bad thing is that he assigns about 6 NOVELS for the semester and you write papers comparing them. This takes a lot of time in reading. God forbid you're behind. The good thing is that you don't have any daily assignments, HW or anything else. Just read the books and do the papers.

He is so boring! I sat in class and was so bored, over half of the class brings laptops and checks their email. The books he assigns are boring, and his lectures have nothing to do with the books.

I spent the entire semester staring at his mouth. The class is more of a book club; and he'll lecture the entire class about stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the essays.

Unfortunatly he lectures all class periods, and the lectures have nothing to do with the essays. The final essay has two parts and is worth 50% of the grade. All essays are based on books read ouside of class. This is not for students who thrive on structure and outlines. good luck!

Be cautious in letting your political party affiliation out of the bag -- he'll cut you off mid-stream thereafter.
