Take Dr. Bakewell! He is probably the smartest professor here at Creighton. He is a good guy who likes to joke and classes are entirely based around class discussion. If you do the readings you are set (he might call on you in class). I almost never read but still managed to do fine.

Comment:

Best class this semester. A pretty reading intensive course but the majority is very interesting. The entire class was discussion-based with several simple reading quizzes, 2 tests of passage id and preplanned essay, 2 6 - 8 page papers, & an at-home commentary final. He allows the discussion to flow and intervenes only if necessary. Awesome class!

He is an awesome teacher! Really takes the time to know his students and help them with any issues, the subject material is difficult but he helps you through it. Gives quizzes and lets you correct them for extra credit, makes the class loads of fun. Definitely take this teacher if you get the chance!!

I've had 3 classes with Dr. Bakewell and loved every one of them. He gaduated from Yale and speaks a kabillion languages but he's very down to earth and explains everything really well. The material is hard but if you make an effort he will bend over backwards to help you. quite a few extra credit opportunities as well.

By far the best Latin teacher at Creighton. Very understanding and easy to talk to. He is extremely intelligent (speaks 8 languages) but explains everything in simple, easy-to-understand terms. One of the best professors I've ever had.

Bakewell is an awesome guy and an awesome professor! He's very passionate about Latin&his students. Will help understand anything in class or even help with outside things. Offers extra credit&quizzes are pretty predictable-it's just up to you to study though. KNOW THE VOCAB&VERB FORMS otherwise Latin is hard, but Bakewell makes it fun&pretty easy!

I love him. I didn't find Latin that easy to understand by Dr. Bakewell made it fun and made sure that we stayed on track. The quizzes every other class are doable and the tests are half take home and half in class. We also played Jeopardy before each test and before both tests he got the whole class bagels!!!

He's a great guy! Very funny, easy to talk to, open to help. Makes himself very clear if you ask. Sometimes moves a mile a minute but you can get him to slow down and explain. Quizzes are standard, but follow the same format. The book is very important for translating sentences and vocab is key too! I highly recommend him, especially for Latin!

Dr. Bakewell is an amazing teacher, and probably one of the smartest profs on campus. If the course is offered again, it is definitely worth taking. Regardless of the class, Bakewell is a great teacher and more than willing to help students with paper topics, but he expects quality work as he should. An all around great guy.
