Had him in Fall 2017. The difference between his lectures and the actual content of the class is ridiculous. e.g. he tried explaining mitosis with some weird glove demo while the tests and labs are extremely detailed. You won't get anything useful from his lectures, just know the lab manual very well. Seems nice but not a good lecturer for 1AL

Garriga is the Monday night lecturer for Bio 1AL. Lectures are boring and long and he doesn't really go into much depth that is helpful for labs or for the midterms (which Meighan writes). There are 4 learning catalytics questions during each lecture which are really difficult and most people only get 2/4 right. Luckily there is a generous curve

What a ridiculous and unprepared professor. I took him in spring and he was astounded that people left after the mandatory quiz because no one wanted to stay for his lectures. He gets very easily flustered. Exams are ridiculously hard for the content he lectures. If you can understand the concept from the lab manual, you should be okay for the exam

He made it obvious that he was not well prepared for lectures, once even saying he hadn't looked at photosynthesis in 20 years and was now going to teach it to us. Sped through lectures which often did not help with lab content. Tests were difficult and very different from the exam reader questions we were given (more conceptual).

Cool d00d. Lectures are really interesting and he covers material you have never seen before, so going to lecture and understanding exactly what he says are paramount. His office hours are chill too. Second best lectures next to Urnov, although they have different styles and nuances so its not a fair comparison.

His lectures are short, concise, and easy to follow (compared to other profs). His problem sets are indicative of his exams (in that questions are paragraphs-long, poorly- and confusingly-written). His exams emphasize concepts and was probably the easiest of the 3 profs. It would have been easier if he took time to proofread and knew grammar.

Unless you're confidant about your genetic background from high school or college Bio, then this section of MCB 104 will grill you. The lectures are seemingly simple, coherent, and short. However, come exam day, be prepared for paragraph long questions, grammatical errors, and convoluted problems.

Disliked his lecture style. Would write one word down after explaining a buch of stuff, so you weren't able to track his thought process. Midterm was terribly difficult.

MCB 41 brought my gpa really down. The tests are graded unfairly and quizzes are super hard. but the material is very interesting regardless.

Compared to the other two professors who taught this class, Professor Garriga was easier. Interesting course material. But the exams were graded extremely unfair. As a general reminder, this class is not easy at all. GSIs have very difficult and tricky weekly quizzes. The exams are mostly pedigree chart analysis which takes special skill.Be warned!

Garriga is a nice guy and willing to answer questions. His section in MCB41 was the most interesting. His test was also easier - grading on exams are harsh though. Miss one question, and you're down a letter grade (each question is worth a lot).

The class material was very easy to understand, but I don't know if it was the professor or the GSIs, but exam grading was pretty unfair. No regrades were allowed and they were very strict on partial credit. Miss one "key word" and you get 0/15 points for that question. Class would've been better if exams were graded more efficiently.

doesn't explain concepts thoroughly and as a result most of the class is always confused. seems disjointed in lecture and doesn't really make useful connections between topics. he is a really nice guy and is entertaining, but difficult to follow. writes extremely vague questions on problem sets. difficult subject, but i've had better genetics profs
