Had Harvey for a Sociology of Education class in 1986. Most stimulating class I took at IUP. Didn't always agree with him but liked and respected him enormously. Not sure if he is still teaching. I hope so.

Take him. All you do is read a tiny text book and answer a 10 point quiz every class. he doesnt even teach the stuff in the book he just goes on talking about politics and life. its an enjoyable easy class.

holtz is the best out..sometimes he gets off topic but everything in class is interesting and makes you think! focuses a lot on current issues and really educates you about life in general ..he shares a lot of personal stories and is very funny! class focuses on discussions..overall my fav prof at IUP and i am taking him again in the fall

Wow, definitely a unique class. If you come to class, maybe skim the chapters (since he doesn't teach the chapters, you read and take a quiz) and read the stupid book he assigns you will get an A. Lots of extra credit. Class was boring, but you can do other things in his class.

Great teacher, likes to entertain his students. Does not like you to fall alseep and loves for you to participate in class. WARNING: Do not attempt to finish your quiz and try to leave class early,you will be marked absent! If you take him (which isn't a bad suggestion) just come to class is all you need to do to pass!

easy A! take this class.. very boring but so easy. i sleep or study for other classes during this class! u have to read one book that u can get everythin on sparknotes n stupid quizes to take attendance, advise u to GO TO CLASS n get an easy A!! take this class!! soooo easy.

Harvey is the Man!!!! He is very involved with student activies around campus and really has a pasion for his work. Haha look at all of these people complaining about how easy the class is!! i just dont get it. The book is interesting and the work load is low i would recommend him to anyone.

I honestly used this class as a studyhall for my other classes and still ended up with a B. He teaches you NOTHING about Sociology...only about his views on issues that are happening. He has favorites, and they are basically the only ones in the class to him. Show up, and you get an A basically. This class was a complete joke. I hated it.

Basically it boils down to this: If you want an Easy A - take this class. You listen to the man bs about politics the whole time and his views, the quizzes and papers are cake, and you just show up for class. If you can't handle that, or you want to actually learn something, I wouldn't recommend him.

I thought i would be learning something, the only thing i learned was his personal views on the world, and when i would question the, i would be told i was wrong. He find 2-4 students in the class that agree with him and for 15 weeks they dicuss topics while you do some other classes hw

I HATE THIS CLASS. If i did not have to take it i would of peaced out along time ago. The majority of the people in the class are miserable and like to hear themseleves talk. All we talk about is racism and ignorance and its actually funny cause 80% of the class is ignorant. I honestly can not wait till decemeber when im out of this class!!!!

Harvey would be a great candidate for senate because he could hold a filibuster for days! He spends the entire semester talking about the same things which are his opinions of the world. I learned nothing in this class. It was an easy A - no tests, only quizzes on text book chapters and read 2 novels and write opinion papers related to questions.
