Comment:

For people complaining about the basic triad knowledge discussed in 1000 by year end, this is the departments fault and is the same case year-to-year regardless of who teaches. She is a talented performer and is accustomed to odd-time signatureadditive meters which may explain the difficulty in basic time (though this hasn't been the case for me).

Amazingly friendly teacher, absolutely love her personality! The lectures could have used a big more structure but overall I really enjoyed the class and her enthusiasm for music!

She is a poor lecturer. She''ll ask stupid questions to try to start discussions but no one will answer because it's something lame like "what is tonality?" It's hard to hear her and even harder to get what she's saying. The course got so much better second semester.

As a person she is nice and friendly, as a teacher I cannot stand her, she makes no sense and I understand none of the course material she is trying to teach. This is a subject I was really interested in too, and I'm sure someone else could teach it very well, but I don't think this class is suited to her

If you ask a question in class, she will treat you like an idiot. She will also give a lot of conflicting and/or false information. The only way to do well in the course is to do a lot of research on the topics mentioned in class on your own. Her lectures are useless.

I got an A+ in the class and I feel no better about my skills. She is unable to perform class material such as keeping time or singing in pitch. She also jumps from concept to unrelated concept without regard for logical progressions. The only good thing I can say is I now make money by teaching ear training to her disillusioned students.

She definitely knows her subject and is approachable, however she has trouble controlling the class along with plowing through important aspects of the course to learn about stuff that isn't as important. was not my favourite class to be in and i'm glad i don't have to take it again.

Irene is fantastic. Unfortunately, there are alot of immature students who do not take her seriously, however, she is insanely talented and knowledgable. Very cheerful and pleasant, very engaging.

very nice and friendly teacher! almost always has a smile on her face. it was a pleasure to be in her class! offers to help out students outside of class. sets up gigs for the class not just at Yorku but in the GTA. the class environment was very laid back and enjoyable, it was always fun. i am definetly taking the next level of the class!

Prof Markoff would be better suited to teaching young children rather than university students. The difficulty (or lack of) was appalling; first year music and by the end of the year we were talking about triplets, enharmonics and (horror!) diminished triads. Perhaps the department's fault, but this was not a course that challenged.
