I took this course for winter and it consisted of a group project. Thank goodness I had a great partner because it was a heavy project. Consisted of creating a lesson plan, PowerPoint and 1 discussion (all done with partner). Responded quickly to questions and did an intro to the course using Zoom. I liked the course

Be ready to teach a chapter with a group the first couple of weeks. Also get a group that will be good at group work because thats all this class is. She is all over the place and changes her mind as to what she wants on bills which can be annoying just check with her, tends to get off topic on her views other than that shes ok

Professor Kathleen Young is a great professor! All the work in her class is group work based. The only downside I had this semester was that group members were not providing the equal amount of effort into the group assignments which consisted of creating two posters about a chosen bill. Be prepared to present in the first weeks of class!

It might be due to the fact that I took her during one of the six-week summer sessions, Dr. Young was super easy on us. However, in order to get an A, I read all the necessary chapters before and after class meetings, and conducted extensive research on our bill. She is also the traditional kind, who prefers papers and a little slow in emails.

Professor Young I took her in summer and her class was not even based on lecture or anything. So buying or renting the book is pointless because she barely does lectures. Her summer course is more based on a group project about a bill going through the senate. Basically get a grade on that and you pass and attendance is mandatory takes roll.

super disorganized. currently have an A, but she changes her mind about what she expects every class. for example, she said she wants my group to do a certain thing. we did that thing, and then she said why did you do that? it's wrong! and we were like, you told us to. and she said, come on guys. you know better. this has happened with every group.

Took her for a 3 day class during summer term and thought she was really great. She gives you her cell phone number and is available for questions, etc. Pretty easy class. You work with a partner and have 2 response assignments and then one "presentation" assignment also working with a partner. Would recommend taking this class. Very informative.

This class is not easy but not hard. We had one big group project which was on a health bill. This is the majority of the grade. Also, a small powerpoint presentation on a book chapter. No tests, quizzes, or papers in this class. It should've been a piece a cake but she is disorganized and changes her mind about what she wants on the project.

Reading these comments made me nervous. However, I took a chance and decided to take HSCI 439 with her. BEST DECISION I MADE! She is very inspiring and cares about our future. She is tough but not intimidating. She is funny and cool if students do their job. I love this class so much! I am really going to miss her.

No clear criteria for any assignment. Her lectures are jumbled all over the place. Her projects are extremely useless. I found that I did not learn a single new thing in her class. She also forgets a lot of things, so our grades suffer when she forgets to include things on papers and projects. I would not recommend this professor. Big mistake.

THE WORST! Very disorganized! Changes her mind constantly The week before the final project was due she added about a dozen NEW things she wanted to add! And if you ask questions, she gets defensive/gives even more confusing answers! Very arrogant and seriously thinks she's the best prof. at CSUN! Easy class overall, the stress wasn't worth it.

She's very resourceful , but her disorganization is very frustrating. She'll change her mind and make up different changes along the way for project criteria. She will try to engage us in related public health topics and is a wonderful person but just too disorganized.

The class was easy and the workload was simple for a 6 week course compared to a normal school year session. However, Professor Young was a bit disorganized and really lagged on responding back to emails, which was annoying because this class was entirely online. You can find the book online for free!

Dr. Young seemed nice. I took her online for summer school so our workload wasn't as bad as in the regular semester. We had a health bill ppt analysis and weekly hw. The one problem I had was that she was never on the moodle online chat when she said she would be to answer our questions. She also doesn't post grades.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER! I'm all for assigning hw and doing group papers if we have to, but this professor, or as she only prefers to be called, "Dr.", is UNORGANIZED and changes her mind every day. The final paper that needs to be turned in at the end of the semester is about 75 pages total and proofread by her only one time, with few comments.AVOID!

She is very into her self and does not pay ateention to students. It almost feels like she does not care about her students and all she cares about is her own personal stories. A lot of group work and does not get back to emails..

Not the most organized professor but she is very interested and passionate in her topic. She has started a new project that she just implemented in Fall'11 so be aware that taking this class is now a LOT more work that used to be for previous students. You learn a lot, but its a lot of group work...actually all group work so be prepared.
