Comment:

No partial credit, assigns too much homework, always pulls questions directly out of the book. He is also insufferable, bad accent, called American students "lazy" when he refuses to explain anything and rambles on about meaningless stuff. Study from the book not the board. Maybe he was hired because the UNF math department was outsourced.

Comment:

I took Professor Tongs Calculus 1 class about a year ago. Hes difficult to understand sometimes and doesnt always teach everything thats required for the homework; however, I loved taking his class for his personality and humor (intentional or unintentional). Take him if youre already good at math and want some humor with your calculus

I dont understand why there are so many bad reviews? I liked Dr. Tong. He might be a little hard to understand at first but he goes through the material at a nice pace and tests are based pretty much entirely off the homework he gives. I didnt mind his class and he was funny and nice.

Just don't. English nonexistent. I have previously taken calc so I already knew all the material however he still managed to confuse me, so I feel bad for those that this was there first actual calc class. He says "yu" after EVERYTHING, I counted one day and he said it 175 times in ONE CLASS. The worst teacher I have ever experienced. atrocious!

If you would like to ensure a passing grade in Calc, DON'T take this class with him. He speaks in terms only he can understand and fails to realize that we are students who have never been taught this subject before. He tells stories all throughout class that don't correlate to what he "teaches." Don't take his class under any circumstances.

Here is the bottom line for this class. Do the homework or you will get absolutely destroyed on the test. Furthermore, the problems on the test are harder than majority of the homework, but if you do more practice than just the homework you will obviously have a better understanding. Take his tests with confidence, study and yes he does curve.

I was the only mathematics major in this Calc class, and he told me "don't major in math because you'll just end up teaching here and we have enough math teachers". I used to love math, but he really dampened my spirit. He was very difficult to understand. This was the first C I have gotten in more than 2 years of college.

Dr. Tong is a math genius but a terrible professor. Does not explain concepts well and is unorganized. He blatantly ignores the cheating that happens during exams and quizzes. bad, bad professor, do not take unless you have a strong incliation towards math.

Take him! Very hard class, but helps you tons. He helps you on tests and will go over any question you ask. Great guy. Ask him for help and he will make sure you pass. Gives extra credit! Very hard material, but study, ask him for help, and you will pass. Great teacher, super concerned about his students passing. DO NOT DROP!!

I love Dr. Tong. He is a little hard to understand at first, but he is a teacher at heart. He truly tries to assist students in learning calculus. His tests are not easy, but if you go to class, learn the material, and ask for help when you need it, you should do well. He does grade on a curve and is fair in his expectations. Great guy!

He is very funny and a great guy! A bit of an accent but you get used to it easily. I thought he was very reasonable and enjoyed the class and his stories/philosophies. I would probably recommend him!

He's very nice. Math is boring anyway, so lectures are not so exciting... before the tests he does one example of each question on the test... he curves the grades and if you still don't know how to do the question on the test, you can ask him and he will help you to figure it out.

I really enjoyed this class. The first day everyone looked at each other and didn't know what he was saying, but you get used to it and he is actually extremely funny. If you do the Homework and take notes it's a breeze. I hate math and I made a B(He curves at the end if you turn in all your Homework and come to class daily)

If you aren't already solid on calculus, don't take Dr. Tong's class. He's very nice and jokes a lot, but other students were getting lost with his lectures even when they KNEW the material. Fast paced, and required extensive studying to pass even quizzes.

This prof is a great guy but a pathetic teacher. It seems as though he resents teaching and wants a TA so that he will basically get paid by the state to do "research" or what ever people that get paid to "think", "do". I feel sorry for the guy, he should apply to work in some sort of government "think tank".

His lectures are vague, and always off topic. His quizzes are mostly take-home (googling stuff), and his HW is decent. His tests are open book and open note, however there is NO partial credit. His final is extremely hard (but there is an awesome curve)! This is basically one of those classes you can get an A in and not learn a thing.
