The best professor I had in the economics department at ASU. He is extremely respectful of all students, especially during presentations. Very helpful if you go to office hours. He truly wants you to succeed. Follow rubrics for papers and you will do well. As others mentioned, sit near the front of class and he will love you.

Prof. Mendez is a great teacher. His material is interesting and relevant, and you can tell he really cares and wants his students to succeed. Very kind person. If you have the option to take him for the capstone, I highly recommend it. 3 quizzes, 2 individual papers, 1 group paper, 1 individual presentation, 1 group presentation. Optional final.

I loved this class. Mendez is so sweet and nice and he covers a lot of interesting topics. He gives you all of the test questions beforehand. Easy A, but I enjoyed the class regardless of how easy it was. There are a few short papers, an individual presentation, and a group term paper and three exams. I recommend him!

I took Prof Mendez for my capstone class. He was a great and entertaining professor, every class is a lecture about an interesting relevant topic. The class is pretty straight forward with 3 papers, 2 tests, 1 final, and 1 presentation.

Discussion based class. Very arbitrary with participation points. 2 individual papers, 1 group paper, 1 individual presentation, 1 group presentation, and a midterm. Students wrote the midterm questions and he copied them from a google doc. Not a hard class, just tedious.

If you can take ECN306 at ASU with anyone else, you should. Dr. Mendez' lecture is one of the worst things I have experienced at ASU. He might be knowledgeable, but he is also extremely boring and confusing. Class material is disorganized and unclear. Homework assignments require you to have knowledge not mentioned during lecture or in textbook.

Lectures are ok, you will learn some if you go. Homeworks are easy. In class attendance taken so go to class. Exams are hard but for the final he gives you some past exams to help you. Pretty entertaining guy. I think he was a good teacher but it was a 7:30 class for me and thats hard to pay attention in. I would recommend him!

Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from this mental midget. I could give you guys some war stories but I will spare you because it would be paragraphs long.

The teacher is straight garbage. He intentionally tries to confuse people with his convoluted lectures, then has an inferiority complex if a student smirks at him during lecture.

Comment:
The lectures were boring and the professor was not very good at teaching. He would start to talk about an economic principle before introducing it and students would have to stop him and ask what he's talking about. He also used different letters to represent certain variables than most other professors which causes confusion.

Although many students complain about him, if you go to class and actually listen, it's pretty easy. Lots of the test questions are from previous homework and practice exams. The homework itself is easy since you get two tries. The book was pretty useless so I wouldn't recommend getting it. He also curves the class a lot!

I think Mendez is a very good professor for the type of material that is presented. He is fair (allows you to drop your lowest homework) and curves immensely. I know a lot of people complained, but it's because they didn't show up and didn't ask questions. The material is dry, but I learned a lot. The 7:30am class wasn't all that bad. Overall good!

Professor Mendez is a real life incarnation of the lead detective of the show Monk. He has a hard time communicating what it is he is trying to say, and that makes the lectures only half rewarding to attend. You get two chances at the identical homework assignments, so that should be a guaranteed 100%, but the exams are very difficult. 12% curves

If you show up to class and are decent at econ it's a piece of cake. As an accounting major I never studied and scored a, 90, 97 and 90 on all three tests. Mendez is a really cool guy who will basically give you exam questions in his lectures. If you don't show up to class though you will not pass though. He also curves.

Horrible professor! The concepts in this class are easy, but he makes them too complicated. Went into his office hours to ask a question, and he berated me and to top it off never answered my question. Tests have big curves which saved me. Do the study guides and homework's-- a lot of test questions come from these.

Boring class. He is a rambler who doesn't know how to teach. The last final is really easy. Just sit in the front row & he'll love you. He curves & the last final is really easy as well as the group paper

Study the practice exams and you're pretty much set. A lot of the homework is on the exam too. You can technically get 100% on the homework because you get 4 tries but make SURE you know how to do it... it'll pay off dividends.

So ridiculous. His exams are SO DIFFICULT. And if you get stuck in the 7:30 am class which you probably will because ASU SUCKS, then you will not be able to stay awake through the lectures. Avoid this class at all costs.

I took ECN 306 for my last semester at ASU (I graduated in May 12). I went to class and did all of the practice problems that he posted on BB. I never bought the book. Half the time, I was writing love notes to the cute girl next to me. It was a great class and I had some good times! And I got a D on the final and still passed with A. Go Mendez!

Dr. Mendez was fantastic. His lectures are interesting and he gives loads of practice problems that are very similar or the same to problems that will be found on the test. If you attend class, he gives the answer to at least 3 or 4 questions you would have no idea how to answer otherwise. 1 EC quest./exam. Generous curve. Great experience. A+.
