Comment:

Karla tries to be available to her students all the way. At the college level, I can't explain how important it is. Even during COVID-19, she made videos, provided clear feedback on exams and quizzes which allowed us to really learn the subject! It is easier said than done if you're teaching a lot of classes. Fair tests if you do homework.

Comment:

The class is very hard, and fast paced. If you don't like fast paced classes, don't take this class. If you are stuck on a subject, she won't go back over it for you, and instead will tell you to "read the textbook". She also isn't very accessible outside of class. Gives out take home quizzes every week, but she grades them very hard.

Comment:

Professor Westphal's exams are challenging, but the questions are straightforward. She frequently stays past her normal office hours and cares about her students understanding of the material. This also results in explanations that can be too in-depth for the class.

This is the worst teach I have ever had. When you ask questions she makes you feel stupid. Expects students to know everything , Lectures are all over the place and super hard to follow. Does not treat students with respect. Do not take this class!

I failed this class, and I had perfect attendance. At the halfway point, half the class dropped. At the end of the semester those of us who stayed regretted it. More then half of us who stayed failed. She doesnt respect students and treats them like children. Lecture heavy and doesnt care if you pass. If you ask for help she gets mad

Worst teacher I've ever met. despite the fact you earn decent grades for quizzes and exams, she will still treat you with indecent attitude if she thinks you don't understand the contents in the materials.

I don't know why Karla has so many bad reviews. Math class is very tough especially if you don't put on effort. She may give a lot of quizzes and h.w. but they always are related to the topic, & the exams are fairly easy if you did those. She may be funky at times but she really cares for her students. She helped me 2+ hours past her office hours.

Horrible teacher!! Need a calculator cant use it. Need extra credit? Wont give it, need a grade round up ? Wont happen. Lectures are incredibly fast paced and treats students like their at a day care. Test are extremely mind boggling and homework is mandatory as she collects when there are exams. DONT TAKE HER AWFUL CLASS.

This class shouldnt be a hard class but yet she makes it , she goes off topic too much and treats students like children. She gives no extra credit, she goes off the book, she has every homework assignment due the day of the test which she will go over and grade how much you did. She does NOT round up grades even if you are .04 away from passing.

Karla is a great teacher. She is a very helpful professor and really cares about how her students are doing. She does assign a lot of hw, but it is only there to help you, so just do it. She also assigns take-home quizzes every week. To help study for the tests she posts last semester tests as a guide. If you put in the effort, you will get an A.

She teaches the concepts more than doing examples, which is why I struggled along with the extremely hard tests (why I dropped). She is very nice, funny, and approachable. She is always willing to help in office hours and is one of the most respected math professors at Saddleback. Lots of homework that is never due. Take-home quizzes every week.

Comment:

Any calc class requires attendence it's obvious! Skipping lecture for any teacher is not a good idea. Karla is so caring and really good at explaining everything. Quizes are take home and she will work on with you. Do the quizes, show up to class, ask questions and do the HW and you got an A. She is also hilarious so lecture is never boring!

She's ok. Her exams contain like 12-15 questions when the exams are worth 100 points which means that if you get a shorter answer totally wrong, boom there goes a whole letter grade. There's also a ton of homework on each section you have to complete. As long as you keep up on it I suppose you'll be fine on that. Quizzes are take home which is good

Not a bad teacher, she just goes off on too many tangents and it makes the curriculum difficult to understand. She really intends to help students but has office hours at times that I wasn't able to attend with a job and other classes. She emails back quickly and has her home phone available to students as well.

Comment:

I love the way Karla explains topics during her lectures. She gives plenty of examples but goes off on a tangent pretty often. Her tests are reasonable. She assigns a lot of homework that she doesn't check but it's honestly for your own benefit. She's also very helpful during office hours which she offers a lot of!
