Only took this w/ him cause he was the only prof. Hated his F2F class, thought online would be okay. Just as rude online. Grade hinged on 2 essays. Whenever I asked a Q, he told me if I ever actually looked at the content I'd find it, instead of helping me. Confusing grading. Little-to-no feedback or interaction or assistance. Never again.

Spent the whole semester berating us for being stupid. All tests were P/F even with multiple questions/answers. Asked questions he had not given us the info for yet and got angry we didn't know it. I remember him imitating Eeyore and playing clips of Borat to criticize America. Invited me to office hours then told me to go away when I arrived. 2x.

Best example of a guy phoning it in for pay I've ever seen. Classmates asked if we even had a teacher; none of us heard from him until he emailed everyone mid-term to say if you were below a certain score get out, you won't pass. If you're a self-motivator and don't need directions or answers to your questions then go for it. Otherwise avoid him.

He's a good professor. Actually makes you think for more than 5 seconds. Also, think before you say something in class. If he counteracts your argument it's not because he hates you, he wants you to think things through. Give some effort, provide some insight and you'll do just fine. Or don't, whatever.

Grading scale is set up with more confusion than necessary. class is set up with very low interaction. I did not need to buy a text book for his Medieval Ireland class, so that is the only thing worth being positive about.

This guy is the real deal. All he really wants you to do is to be aware and think for yourself. With that being said he can be a little over the edge in lectures but if you really read the chapters and your notes you should be straight. His office hours were sometimes helpful and other times he would just talk about issues in the world! Good guy

I went into this online class hoping I would learn a lot about Irish history, but this wasn't the case. He gives out T/F quizzes (w/ a weird grading scale) every week on 30 page readings that are difficult to understand. For the final, he assigns an essay with very contradicting guidelines (and you need the textbook, which he doesn't state).

After reading the rest of the reviews I see nothing has changed. He is rude and unhelpful, he may imply he is going to help you and give you a chance but do not believe him. He will make it point to let you all know how stupid you are at the beginning of the term and then proceed to tell you over and over for the rest of the semester.

Honestly, worse professor I've had, not because the class is hard, but because I expect to go into class and learn, not learn about how horrible America/American's are. His quizzes are only T/F, which is fine at first, but then you quickly realize that the stuff he asks has very little to do with the chapter. I was looking forward to this class too

He was the worst professor I have ever had in my life. He was arrogant, rude, and condescending. I tried to go to his office hours to get help and he refused to help me until I admitted my ignorance. I ended up dropping the class because it wasn't worth being bullied.

You have to pay attention and make a generous effort. I received a 69 on my midterm paper, but all the answers to the quiz questions are on the online textbook website, all you have to do is take the quiz on there to get the answers and just reference them while taking the reading quizzes on myucf.

Confusing grading scale and many students found the assigned papers confusing. Lots of reading, quizzes are hard. Good news is that if you ask for help and guidance, he will provide it. I did very poorly on the first paper but worked with him and did much better on the second. He rewards effort and improvement, but you will work for your grade.

This class sucks during the summer and online. it just sucks honestly. There are quizzes every week and you have 2 papers. The quizzes are rough because he only asks 5 questions out of alott reading and they are difficult to understand because they were in old english. Then again this class isnt my cup of tea so that might be it.

Herlihy was a good professor. He expects students to think... A lot. If you want a more traditional class where you learn history and regurgitate facts with some analysis, don't take his class. If you care more about general understanding with an overemphasis on analysis, his class is something to consider.

A one minute quiz at the beginning of every class.. Online reading quizzes (5 questions) The textbook is essential. Herlihy is not an easy-A professor. He could be abrupt and seem condescending at times. However, his lectures are well detailed . He uses the lectures to connect with today's times. Not recommended for the easily offended or slackers

Probably one of the better professors here in UCF. He is harsh, but fair. To be frank, the class is not hard to pass, unless you are catatonic. Just put some effort in the class, he's really not asking for much.

Everyone wants to hate on him. Yes he is in your face & likes things his way but by the end of the semester you will learn so much more than what he just teaches. If you come with an open mind, simply do as he asks, & participate you won't have a hard time at all. He is always there to help

This is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. He is often negative and rarely has a nice thing to say in class. He expects perfection, so it basically ends up becoming a passfail class. There are so many ways to fail this class and very few ways to pass. I dreaded going to this class every day and the anxiety I got was so not worth it.

Worst class I have ever taken. Professor doesn't keep up with the class. Content is lackluster. If you tried to message him, some of his responses were sarcastic like he is the God of Ireland. Stay. Away.

Extremely specific with what he wants. Highly opinionated and loud. I had to withdraw. Class starts off easy then picks up. Fail 5 quizzes you fail class. 1 minute essay every class.
