My favorite professor so far in my time in college. Nice guy, very helpful when you need it, and he explains what he wants from the papers very well but still leaves it open enough for students to take it wherever they want. I'm really going to miss him.

Professor McGarvey is the absolute best professor I've ever had. He cares about his students and is extremely thorough. He makes it very clear as to what he is looking for. I took him for EN101 and EN102 and looked forward to coming to class. I loved his use of personal stories and experiences. I'm so upset that I will no longer have him.

McG is the only reason I stay at Cumberland. Coolest, smartest, tells great stories and shares amazing life adventures that inspire us all. I learned more in first two weeks of eng 102 than every English class before. He said he was retiring. Cumberland's loss for sure if its true. I hope it's not. McG is the man.

Down to earth and takes the time to make sure you understand everything. We used the book a few times. Majority of work was essays, didn't read or do homework as much as other English 101 classes, but did have to read our essays outline sometimes. Takes the time to answer any questions you have or review essay before submitting it.

Professor McGarvey was probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so intelligent and is very knowledgeable about many things, not just English. He truly shows he cares about his students and always has an open ear to talk about things not just limited to English Class. His class is truly an experience I will always remember.

Prof. McGarvey made English 102 very enjoyable. He is down to earth and his lectures keep the class exciting. This is one professor that truly wants to see all students succeed. I have thought about taking the class again since I enjoyed it so much!

Professor McGarvey is an awesome teacher! He wants you to think outside the box when writing papers. Put yourself in the characters shoes and really get into it. Grammar is BIG for him. As long as your story isn't bland, and your grammar is perfected you're already at a high B almost A.

Excellent professor. Soft spoken and really interesting but intense at the same time so that I don't want to miss anything. I've learned to really analyze literature using many different methods. Highly, highly recommended. A memorable and influential professor for sure. Writes great reference letters.

Prof Mcgarvey knows his English. He's not a hard grader, but has expectations. He only expects greatness from everyone and is always available for help when we have questions. He cares about all his students and wants them all to pass, and if I could take him again I would!

Best professor I ever had. Hated the thought of English at first, but now I can't wait to come to class. I love how he gets the slackers involved, it's hilarious. This is my second class with McG and I wish I could take more with him. Tough and demanding but in a gentle way. Really inspirational. Nice to look at too.

Very good English teacher. I took the online EN101 course, and can honestly say that Professor McGarvey was the best online instructor I had this semester. He responds almost immediately to any question you have, and provides critiques for every writing assignment. Definitely recommend!

Professor McGarvey is an awesome professor!! I highly recommend him. He makes even the most dull stories seem so interesting and timeless. McGarvey is ALWAYS willing to meet with you and help go over any questions. He responds very fast via email. His handwriting may be hard to read, but the notes he leaves on papers are very helpful.
