Very clear on her grades and always provides thorough feedback because she is a tough grader. The occasional pop quiz. Participation counts through discussions, emails, or if you're quiet, paying attention and taking notes. Very accessible through emails. Skip the lectures and you probably won't pass. Very passionate about her subject matter.

It's been years since I took class with her and I still tell the horror stories. Tons of papers that she grades inconsistently. She would change the writing prompt shortly before papers were due, meaning I would have to restart my paper after already writing it. Class discussion was best part of the class.

She's very knowledgeable about the subject of blaxploitation literature and film which made it easier to read the films and do the papers. However, there is too much to read for this one class. Papers I can handle (plus you can do them with a group), but so much reading every week makes it a burden to even come to class. Wouldn't take her again.

Lots of reading homework and also lots of writing papers. Don't expect and easy A, you have to work for it. But Dr. Dreher is a fair grader. If you're willing to put in the erudition, time and effort, you'll get a good grade. Class discussions are fun and lively. Participation and attendance are important.

Class was always full of good conversation. Quite a bit of reading but read ahead and you'll be fine. Lots of papers but they are fairly easy once you figure out what she wants. Would change due dates/length requirements/prompts a couple days before papers were due sometimes which sucked those who get things done early. Would have liked more notice

She's one of those instructors who assumes you are taking only her course. She's very negative. Not at all encouraging. In this day and age, who bans technology? No e-readers in an English class???

Though she is very knowledgable about the subject matter, I would not recommend her class. Assignments are online, but she has a strict no laptop policy. She is intimidating, and kicked students out of class for not reading or not bringing materials. Additionally, she never informs students about when papers are due or what papers need to include.

Dr. Dreher is one of the best professors on UNL campus. She knows her history and material. She knows what she is talking about. Whenever I needed answers to my questions, she gave me good suggestions, advice, and extra materials to help me get a better understanding of the topics discussed in class. You'll love her! I recommend taking her course!

So uncomfortable! Professor does not communicate ideas effectively or present them in a professional manner. Also, if you're a fan of the class materials (SatC, romance novels, etc.) the class will be more tolerable. But, if you don't, don't expect an environment conducive to anything other than being bullied and condescended to.

Not only is she "hot to death", she's a brilliant teacher. She does not deal well with lazy students, though and demands that students watch the films and to the reading assignments in the syllabus. Beauty and Brains!

She has a huge attitude and requires way too much writing for a 100 level course. Be ready to read a novel each week...so if you are busy with a full time job and full time coursework, you might want to think twice before enrolling in this class.
