Comment:
Gelfand obviously knows his physics very well and can easily go deeper into harder topics during lectures. This does not translate well into an introductory course in physics. Exams are very diffcult and very hard to prepare for. Practice exams were no help. He gets very defensive when given constructive student reviews. Would never take again.

Comment:
Absolutely terrible professor. Martin Gelfand should not be allowed to be a professor. It is offensive that he earns a paycheck for "teaching" when he is incapable of doing so. I cannot say enough about how poor his teaching abilities are in this few words. Scattered, rude, arrogant. There is no effort by him to bridge gaps in student understanding

Comment:
This 100 level class was hard. Its about the concepts of Physics. Gelfand does a good job of demos but I had a hard time with exams. He is friendly. Be prepared with questions if you use his office hours. He will curve exams and takes the highest attempt online homework. Online book. Will post notes online. First time teaching this class Fall 2016.

Test did not correspond to lecture. When I attended office hours for assistance he made me feel stupid rather than offering help. Take Brian Jones. He's amazing

I had two yrs of physics before taking this class. I knew the material better before going to class. He often put incorrect info on the board and he would skip steps when solving problems. He also taught torque in the most obscure way. Most people FAILED the course!!!

he is reallllly hard to keep up with when taking notes. he writes sloppy and randomly everywhere on the board. also, wHEN he actually lectures about something useful he then admits "but none of this will be on the test". so basically nothing you learn in class will be of any use in the future.

Comment:
Most worthless class I have ever taken at CSU. Test questions are ambiguous. Only hope of understanding the material is to talk to the TA's and read the book. Class sessions actually decreased my understanding of the topics. Instead of answering questions asked in class, he dances around the topic and moves on with lecture.

Professor has no desire to help students and sees class as a way to weed out pre-med students. Strongly suggest taking physics with Brian Jones because his teaching style is far superior and actually fun!

Horrible waste of tuition...averages on tests are 50% if lucky. Difficulty of tests doesnt correspond to relative simplicity of lecture. Homework's pointless, will not help with tests. He wont give you all the eqtns you need on the tests (says he will), and is rude when asked questions in class.
