Comment:
His grading system was weird. Gendle took off -5 and crossed out answers on the exam with no feedback yet gave me 100s on the journals we had to do and the little writing assignments. The two exams are based off of the "discussion" we have in class (gets off topic a lot). If you know a lot about drugs/drug history take his class otherwise don't.

If you have the opportunity to take another professor for global, you should. He was interesting/engaging but he grades exams very harsh. TONS of reading, like sometimes more than 100 pages per night. And a 10 page paper at the end of the semester. There are definitely professors that teach fun, easy-A global classes and this won't be that class.

I had Dr. Gendle for Global and he was the most chill prof ever. The class is based on drug commerce and it was so interesting. It's a lot of reading but there are only two tests and they're short answer based on the lectures. We get off topic pretty easy, but he is so knowledgeable and I learn so much valuable info in this class. TAKE GENDLE!

Really cool guy. His class was super interesting and I have learned so much. I would highly recommend him as a professor. His tests are easy but he grades them unusually harsh.

The concepts we went over were mind blowing and I enjoyed going to this class every time we met! Also, he has more knowledge about neuroscience than anyone I've ever met- take the time to talk to him and pick his brain. He also guided me in my career after college. If you care- he cares and vice versa. Great guy and a great class!!!

Definitely take this Global class. He isn't writing heavy which is nice, just lots of reading. Honestly though if you read and listen to what he lectures about you'll be fine. Really lucky to have him. His focus on drugs and global commerce is really interesting and eye opening.

Only two tests the whole semester and if you study, you are able to do well. He assigns long readings but the tests are based on class discussion so you do not need to read everything. He grades written assignments very easy.

Gendle will go down as one of my favorite professors. His Global class is so interesting that I found myself never desiring to skip. He assigns a lot of reading, but the topics are interesting so it's not a laborious task. He does not assign many papers or give tests, only the midterm and final. He's just a great guy and professor.

Really an awesome guy. He does assign a lot of reading but if you actually read it you will find it to be very interesting. Tests are based on class lectures though.

Gendle is a super interesting guy and definitely gave me a new perspective on the world. He doesn't assign much written work but there is a lot of assigned reading. However, you don't necessarily need to read to pass because he centers his tests around class discussions which are more conceptual based rather than nit-picky. Awesome teacer

Dr. Gendle's classes are very interesting and are usually entertaining. His grading is incredibly inconsistent and he can be difficult to work with outside of class.

The class had a really interesting topic and was more of a discussion than a lecture. TONS of reading the night before (20 pages minimum). Only tests are the midterm and a final, but there are three essays. Focuses on creating global awareness of different cultures. Watched interesting movies. No textbook but a few different books.

One of the best teachers to have for global (a core course that every freshman at elon has to take). You do have to read a lot but the class is so much fun! We have discussions everyday. To be prepared for the testspapers just take notes of the discussion. It's a fairly easy class as long as you participate and keep up with the subjectmaterial.

Dr. Gendle is really nice and energetic when discussing disturbing and unsettling material dealing with drugs and their history and impacts around the world. The class is based around the reading done from the books he assigns, so it is important to contribute to the discussion. No homework other than reading and keeping up with your daily journal.

Comment:
Gendle's grading system is very confusing. He doesn't have a rubric for any of his papers and makes up his own grading system as he goes along. I honestly believe that he grades based off of whatever mood he's in and I would NOT recommend him to anyone. If it was possible to drop a class because of a professor, I would've dropped this one.

Assigns a lot of pages per night, but you don't have to do the reading. Very boring class. Dislike him very much. Doesn't tell you about upcoming papers. Almost no work the first half of the semester. Second semester there are 2 exams and 2 long papers but only 2 cultural events. Interesting sometimes but I haven't learned much. Easy bs-able class.

Cool guy, took his freshman global experience class. So epic really enthusiastic about the material covered really interesting topics like, drug trafficking, government corruption, social structure and culture. Has a neat background in neuroscience that sometimes comes into discussion. Work isn't bad, not too many tests.

Most of the classes are discussions based off the readings, but he goes off on tangents a lot, so you don't need to read them to participate. All of the exam questions are based off of whatever was discussed in class. He's a fair grader, and the exams are open note, so as long as you take good notes and participate in the class, you should do well
