Comment:
Not a Chem major? Don't take her because she 99.8% doesn't care if you learn anything or not. I always asked for help and didn't receive any. Not a mean lady, just clearly only cares for Chem majors. If possible I would avoid taking her. Especially for 111, try for SMetana or Topham (they are THE BEST)

Her grading system is awful. There are 6 tests that you HAVE to pass in order to pass the class. Every other Friday we take 5-6 tests. Her lectures are very fast paced, she switches the slide before you've even written one word, and they aren't easy to understand and she doesn't explain. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours regularly.

70% of your grade is made up of 3 tests and the final exam. The 3 tests set the students up for failure by not having a lot of questions so if you get a couple wrong, you're already down a letter grade. She changed multiple homework due dates without notifying the class. Overall she is not there for the students and does not want them to succeed.

One of the worst classes I've had to take at Longwood. The tests never reflected what we learned in class and she didn't really teach in class to begin with. She made up partner up with 2 other students and do problems/self-teach during the lecture time.

Took her class for Chem 111. Very tough class if you are bad in chemistry to begin with. Some subjects are easier to understand than others. Easy homeworkquizzes even though it is tedious. Tests are hard.

Dr. Rhoten is a great instructor. I took her for Chem 111, which was relatively easy for me as I had already taken AP Chemistry and was taking Chem 113 at the same time. She is really helpful if you are struggling, but you have to take the initiative to ask her and go to office hours.

She is a great teacher for those who want to learn. She expects you to study....and if you have questions....actually know what you need help with not say "I don't know any of this." She is clear, well prepared and very knowledgeable. If you are looking for an easy class forget it! If you are a chem major...prepare to learn or get out!

She is a terrible teacher! Her class is extreamly hard, and she does not explain anything. She gives you work on stuff you have not learned yet and then will explain it only after it is clear that everyone does not get it. DO NOT TAKE HER if you can avoid it!

She's a HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. She's never available, accuses students of cheating in order to fill her quota of F's for the semester and if you're on a sports team, enjoy getting a B or C without doing any kind of work. LUckY YOu! **If you're a genuine student who tries hard and may need help, don't waste your time with her...choose someone better.

She's an amazing professor, who really tries to break down the material into the simplest terms possible. Whenever you have questions about the assignments, all you have to do is bring them into class and she'll answer those questions for the entire class. She answered questions that I didn't even realize I had!

She really is a good professor, but if you don't put in the effort, neither will she. You can't blame her for not helping you if you don't try and ask, or seek help outside the class. If your not smart enough for the class don't take it

Dr Rhoten is a nice lady outside of class and if you don't get on her bad list. The best way to BE on her bad list is to NOT be a Chemistry major/minor and to NOT understand everything she says. And she will say it fast. Not sure how to get off her bad list... would not suggest her to anyone unless a major. Not for the tenderhearded.

She knows a lot about Chemistry and wants to teach it. However, she is very busy with the Chemistry club and other chemistry majors issues. She is not as bad as people make her if you really practice all of the problems and not just the ones she does in class, b/c they do not help on the few short answer problems on the test.

DO NOT take dr. rhoton. she was useless. she held a "help session" one time and LEFT US THERE ALONE. she is NO help. she explains everything really fast and leaves it at that. she doesnt really care if you understand it after that or not. Her homework will make you fail..guaranteed. If you must take her for any reason..change your major!

She gives rediculous homework assignments that everyone fails-yet she still gives it, and doesn't help us with it, then sets us up for even further failure by giving tough exams. She goes through material faster than you can blink, and if you tilt your head sideways, all the information will fall out!!

I took her summer quantitative analysis class at VCU and it was certainly very hard. The material and the homework was easy but the tests were pretty difficult. Final helped me out tremendously. Very nice and willing to help.

Dr. Rhoten is adjunct faculty at VCU over the summer. I'm not a gold member, so I'm posting this here. Her lectures are somewhat straightforward. The only problem is that she isn't very helpful, and as a result her exams are absolutely brutal.
