Dr. Ackerman is my favourite prof at Laurier! His lectures are interesting, fun, and thorough. He speaks clearly and audibly and loves when students participate. I've had him a couple times and at the end of the semester I always feel like I've learned so many valuable things that will assist me in future courses... Plus, he is so charming!

All things considered, he is an ineffective professor. He constantly talks down to students, refuses to answer important questions, and is prone to mood swings. He doesn't allow talking, or even texting and threatens to disallow the use of computers as note taking tools.

One of Laurier's best professors. I have never had a 90 minute class that was filled with so many laughs. Every lecture was interesting. He really makes the material applicable to everyday life. I hope to take more classes with him!

This guy will start every semester warning his students that he is a "notoriously hard marker" when in reality he is just a notoriously bad teacher. Nobody learns anything or is motivated and they perform poorly as a result.

Although he seems prone to mood swings, Dr. Ackerman is a very effective professor. He takes his position seriously which causes some students to dislike him. If something isn't clear and you go to him for help he is insightful and patient. He tries to keep material engaging and relevant, and is a fair *university*-level marker. Do the work, pass!

I think it is ridiculous that people are suggesting that Ackerman is incompetent or condescending. Clearly, you misunderstand him entirely. If you are a student who wants to learn, wants to improve and values your education, he is the best prof. He does everything to help you, if you are willing to ask! If you didn't like him- you're nuts.

That last review is sad. I just finished a course with Ackerman (American Lit.) and it was awesome. He is one of the few profs. I've had that encouraged me to think for myself and not just parrot back lectures. My best course to date.

Thanks to this man, I understand the concept of liminality and will never forget it. Also, he's a genuinely decent man and a good professor. It seems like he enjoys teaching and he puts effort into his lectures, making them interesting. Don't miss class, do the work and ask him for help if you need it. May seem intimidating, but a good guy.
