The best professor i have had so far. Small class and the best part is she makes you practice in class.

She always lectured really well before lab and knew what she was talking about. She's funny but can get a little testy if you don't know what you're doing on some things. Lab was normal level of difficulty although the quizzes were hard.

Comment:

Rich is a tough professor, she knows the 342 material well, but is rusty on 341. Having a good TA really helps in this class. Her tests are tough but some questions come directly from homework. She is available to help outside of class, even though she seems tough she really does want her students to succeed.

Comment:

I took the honors version and there were about 30 of us. That definitely made it easier to have one-on-one with Dr. Rich. She's sarcastic and witty, and I loved that about her, but some may not. She is always willing to help outside of class and the recitation is very helpful. I learned to enjoy organic chemistry a lot more from taking her!

Comment:

Dr. Rich is an extremely unprofessional individual. There were several instances in which she berated students in front of the class and boasted about it later. When asked a specific question, she could not provide a clear explanation and ultimately caused more confusion. I advise you not to take Dr. Rich for the lab.

As always, labs are extremely unorganized. Actually doing the labs isn't bad, but depending on your TA, the lab reports can be awful. Some TAs grade the lab reports more harshly than others. As for Dr. Rich, she can be intimidating, but she's actually a good teacher and has a funny personality. However, you need to come prepared to class.

She's an orgo teacher first, and I imagine she's a good one. However, taking her for Chem 201, I found her recall of basic chemistry to be spotty. It was not uncommon for her to make simple mistakes on the board and in homework problems. In her defense, she tried hard to teach us, she made herself available after class, and she was enthusiastic.

Take someone else for this class if you can. She is not very helpful and does not seem interested in helping unless you are a Chem major. Compared to other sections, mine did much worse, which is indicative of poor teaching.

She literally screws up practice problems, that she reads from the book, and during a pre-test study session she held for us to ask questions she wouldn't accept that she was wrong and the oxidation number for oxygen is -2, even though I told her five times, when she finally did accept I was right she acted like it was strange that oxygen is -2.

Took Organic 2 with Dr. Rich who is the best! More than willing to help out anyone who asks. I saw her literally jumping around a room with a student who was excited about her test grade. Very clear and thorough notes. Explains exactly what is expected of you. Extremely reasonable, nice, and passionate about the subject. HIGHLY recommended.

Dr. Rich is a very good teacher. She uses both the book and outside material to explain concepts. She is very honest when she isn't an expert about any topic and will find out for you outside of class. She teaches well and keeps things intersting. Her exams are only medium difficulty.

She is terrible. She is cocky and doesn't understand the material well enough to teach it. I actually was in a class where a student called her out on a mistake and she didn't gracefully admit that she had made a mistake, but got all flustered and tried to act like HE was confused. I never went to class, just read the book, got an A.

This class got me to actually like and understand org. chemistry. If it all possible take dr. rich at some point. She's pretty tough, but very straightforward, clear and interesting to learn with.

I liked Rich, she was ALWAYS very clear and always made sure that we understood the important concepts. She was always willing to help in office hours. I'm hoping I have her for 342!
