he gives a moderate amount of papers but will give as mush time as you need to complete and will have you turn in rough drafts and he will give lots of feedback. i would recommend taking him because he actually cares about how you are doing and will help you with anything. he is also very easy to reach and will answer emails very fast

He talks on and on and doesnt really make sense. Wouldnt recommend. Confusing and goes from topic to topic without finishing one assignment.

Comment:

Very hard to know what he wants in a paper, will tell you one thing and when you do it he'll mark you down. Compared to other profs he is a hard grader. However, he does give good feedback and answer emails very quickly. He also recommends good sources and is very knowledgable. Lots of articles to read, 5 essays. Take him only if you have to!

Comment:

Constantly reading articles, but allows class time to discuss controversial topics. Material is relevant and very interesting. Gives wonderful feedback and is always open to discussion. Answers emails in a timely manner. Grading is strange, but how can you grade what "good" writing is? I learned so much and am a better writer because of him.

Grades based on opinion- not on actual writing skills, his classes consist of meaningless talking with no connection to anything. He gives reading assignments that have nothing to do with papers we are assigned. Constantly contradicts himself and does not update grades until last possible minute. Don't take his class unless you have no other option

THE TOUGHEST GRADER EVER. He will literally give you the grade he thinks you deserve and if you ask him why you got that grade, he will not be clear and will tell you that not everyone deserves an A

Definitely the worst teacher I have ever had for English. He never explains anything. You dont know your grade most of the semester. The work he assigns do not help with the papers at all. He is a very tough grader and is not fair, even the really good writers are not doing well. I recommend not taking him as your teacher.

I loved Dr. Barry. Great professor. Some of the assignments were tough but he was very fair with the way he graded and gave opportunities to improve your grade.

He's a great guy. A lot of people complain about him being difficult and confusing. If you do the readings however, (and there are a lot) you will do well. This class can be challenging but is extremely rewarding. He is also extremely helpful. Will do seemingly anything for his students.

Taking Professor Barry's class is a terrible idea if you are looking for an A and some credit hours. However, his open-ended assignments and their difficult subject matter will challenge your skills as a writer. He gives a lot of great input if you talk to him about the papers you write.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. Honestly, I have never been so frustrated in my life before this class. I am a nursing major and spent most of my time stressing about this class which never paid off. He contradicts himself, does not explain the assignment, makes 0 sense, and talks about things completely irrelevant. Do not take this class.

(Fall 2012) I liked Professor Barry as a teacher, he was very interesting and knowledgable, he just was not very clear. His papers lacked guidelines and he was somewhat harsh on grades. No rubrics. But overall I really did enjoy his class and would recommend him.

Without a doubt, the worst professor I have ever had. He rambles instead of actually teaching and could not be more vague if he tried. He contradicts himself constantly and never gives direct answers to questions. His grading is ridiculous and in my opinion should not be teaching. Don't take him

Professor Barry is my least favorite professor thus far. He is horribly confusing and contradicts himself all the time. The grading is hardly far and very subjective. There is no point in trying to write in a reasonable manor because he will not like it. It is a very frustrating class and I feel bad for anyone stuck in it.

Very hard; I did not like this professor at all. I have never received below an A on a paper before his class. His grading is ridiculous. He hardly ever gives out A's. He believes giving a B+ is a really good grade.
