Comment:
This professor gave boring lectures and the assignments weren't great. Also, he changed my grade after I had received all of my grades (after the final). He had to "adjust for discrepancy between readers. I am pretty sure that is not allowed after finals-I tried to fight it and he was a jerk about it, and never gave me the grade I earned. BS

Comment:
Prof. Hout is a very nice person. His girth of knowledge is wide, but it will be the students responsibility to know when to tap that resource. He is very approachable, and amiable in character. I would guess that he is a much better researcher and writer than he is a lecturer. All in all, a great person to know.

Some lectures very clear and interesting, others pointless and boring. No one had any idea what our paper was about until 2 weeks before it was due, even though he'd been talking about it for weeks. Reading list could use improvement, as could assignments.

Comment:
Hout is a nice person, yes. But this class is lame. Hard waking up in the morning for, and very hard to get interested in it. Hout is neither interesting or engaging. And the group project is fun, but the 15-page paper was pointless and is graded very hard. Unless you're a sociology major, I advise you: don't take this class. It is a sad class.

Comment:
He is not the most interesting or engaging lecturer, and the subject matter doesn't help it out much. He seems like a really nice guy none-the-less. This class does NOT have a lot of stats! It's NOT on the exams, only for the 15 pg. research paper, which is a bit tedious but NOT hard. It's really not that bad of class, in my opinion, it's easy....

The most boring soc class ever! Lectures were pointless by the second month so I stopped going and still got an A. Keep up with the few readings that are assigned and go to discussion, and you're set. The papers are extremeley easy, but a real bore to a

The actual topic matter isn't the most interesting to begin with, but he's very approachable, extremely helpful, and has a real passion for his work [a lot of which is quantitative] The paper [for me] was very difficult and tedious, but I did very well on it and it taught me a lot. Reading is light.

The class subject was really boring, but at times interresting. The lectures could have been done in a better and more interresting way. The tests were not too bad, but the 15 page paper was a pain, but not hard. Just tedious. Great guy and very approachable.

He got progressively boring as time went on. 8 page group paper was a breeze but the 10-15 page research paper was a gigantic pain in the ass. His lectures aren't necessary, just read the book. VERY LIGHT reading required anyway.

Hout is a great professor, but teaching a boring subject. He does well with what he has. I found his tests very difficult, but others did not. He is very approachable and helpful. He really makes an effort to know his students.

His lectures tend to be very clearly presented and he is very helpful in office hours if you are still confused. But-- the lectures can get rather drawn out and boring at times. I like how he talks about research other profs in the department have done.

the class could have been tought in a much shorter time frame... he just talked about lame examples too drawn out and WAY too much!!! the not so interesting material could have been presented in a more exiting way...
