Best teacher on campus. She's such an amazing teacher. It seems like she knows everything. Too bad not everyone can see that. I feel lucky to be her student. Anyone can get very far if they practice seriously with her. Trust me, you'll get very far. It's all up to you, however. God bless Dr.Kolar.

Great teacher!! She actually knows whats shes doing. Some people hate on her because they are mad at themselves for not doing their job as students. One cannot expect the teacher to do everything for them. We have a job to do as students in getting most of the work done. I think shes the best teacher at this school.

Very good at teaching and making sure we understand how to do things. She's my favorite teacher on campus. Even though i'm not her student, she's still willing to help me with my playing. I wish I could study with her instead of Follingstad.

Great teacher. The only reason people dont see her musical side is because they stay at the low level of barely learning the notes. People dont practice and they tend to blame the teachers for not pushing them. The problem is the students not having a plan. She is awesome, and I consider myself fortunate to be her student. She Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

I took from K. and she is no better than Follingstad. She is just simply the other extreme. K. is extremely organized, no musicality, F. is extremely musical and messy, and no organization. They are both dysfunctional, like the whole department. SDSU has nothing to offer to a pianist, unfortunately. Performance program shouldn't even be accredited

I took her research class and I was totally turned off from doing research in the future. She is conscientious about her job but the woman just does not know how to enjoy music at all. Or anything in life, for that matter. I agree that everything is just a set of rules with her but at least she tries, unlike Follingstad.

I think it is inappropriate to use a state school class as a sales campaign for your own piano method. Kolar is such a robot. She has nothing to do with artistic inspiration. Her life is about rules, regulations, evaluations, committees, probations. She decides that certain people shouldn't get their degree (quote!) and then makes their life hell.

Very helpful. Always positive. Gives many perspectives on a topic, not just her own. Honest. When I began studying with her, I told her my personal goals. I have had much improvement and I already see myself accomplishing those goals with her guidance. She is also extremely knowledgeable in her field. I always leave my lessons feeling enriched.

She is way better than Dr.Follingstad. Students always want a lot of time from her since she's so good. She tells you everything you need to know to succeed. She may not perform anymore, but she can teach so good that she can make you go from being an awful pianist, to a really good one. It all depends on how hard you work, however. Take her!!!

i have played piano for 15 years and other instruments too and this class was harder than it should be for a class made for non-music majors. she graded tests differently and took the class far too seriously for what it was. if you have her, you can deal and get a B but if you can, take someone else

As an older woman returning to school for a 2nd bachelor's degree, I found Dr. Kolar to be most unhelpful as a piano instructor. She was quite negative towards me. I have since switched piano faculty, and I now study with Dr. Follingstad who is just A+!
